Description

But why crush behaviours with punishment when you can grow them with love? He is equally at home ‘around the table’ with primary and secondary senior leadership teams, supporting them to link the big strategic messages to everyday practice in classrooms and beyond. Tara has 20 years of teaching experience working with a wide range of students from inner-city to international private schools. During that time she has led thriving departments as a Head of Department and Head of Faculty. Whilst teaching Tara created programmes to improve boy’s achievement and support successful transitions from primary to secondary school. As well as mainstream achievements Tara has worked closely with Pupil Referral Units to develop student-centred Behaviour Management Strategies.

They explained that they would be conducting the tour and proceeded to lead the best tour of a school I have ever had.” Consistently noticing a child will build their self esteem and raise their aspirations. Positive Noticing matters. Raymond began his career in education in the 1970s as a teenage flute tutor before becoming an English teacher. He was a head of department in three secondary schools and a Deputy Head Teacher before becoming a lecturer on one of Europe’s largest postgraduate teacher education programmes. For the last twenty years, he has worked on behaviour and ethos with thousands of student teachers and a host of schools from Shetland to Watford, and since leaving the university sector in 2017 he has been an independent consultant as well as a trainer with Pivotal Education. He also teaches part-time at a fantastic school in Glasgow.

what are the visible consistencies in your setting? What could they be? Are they embedded with love or punishment?” In this abridged audiobook version of his bestselling title, Paul Dix talks you through the book's hugely influential behaviour management approach - an approach whereby expectations and boundaries are exemplified by people, not by a thousand rules that nobody can recall.Raymond’s philosophy of education is deceptively simple but incredibly demanding: young people – their knowledge and experiences, their skills and abilities, their dreams and fears – are the starting point of what we do. He is an enthusiastic believer in student-centred approaches that first ask young people what they think, and is committed to relational and restorative practices in pastoral care.

Hannah is known for her inspirational & charismatic training, combining her warmth as a person, passion for school improvement, served with a large portion of ‘realness’ and lived experience. As an Adviser and Coach Hannah is a valued and sought-after critical friend and para-professional. Her empathetic approach, delivered with honesty, underpinned with expertise & knowledge means she has supported many educational settings in whole school change as well as individual progression. After leaving school at 16 and trying lots of jobs he was terrible at, Tony trained as a Teacher in Liverpool. He then started as a classroom teacher, initially in Geography and later Psychology. He has worked as an Advisory Teacher for Tower Hamlets Behaviour Support Team, been a SENCo in two mainstream secondary schools and Pastoral Deputy Head, DSL and Inclusion lead. Hannah is an experienced School Improvement Consultant, Coach & Trainer. She specialises in Behaviour, SEMH & SEND, and works nationally and internationally supporting Schools (early years to FE, & Special/AP settings), Local Authorities & Trusts in reviewing, implementing, and developing cultural change, policy, systems and provision.ISBN-13: 9781781352731, 978-1781352731. Throughout the book both class teachers and school leaders will find indispensable advice about how to involve all staff in developing a whole school ethos built on kindness, empathy and understanding. Whilst great observation gives us the detail we need, being intuitively insightful allows us to connect the dots in the most efficient and effective fashion. Intuitive insightfulness comes, not just from being a teacher and leader but from years of experience in shifting policy to irresistible practice. Our coaches understand the nuances of school policy. They shift mindsets but also do the systems thinking that sustain change. When learners are struggling they need support, not red lines and stern faces. They don’t need the dark suits of doom, but rather a learning coach, detached from any process, to support, mentor and guide. (A problem solver, not a process monkey, remember?) A skilled, empathetic specialist who can work with the learner to meet their immediate needs and stem the flow of poor conduct.” On our Online Behaviour Change courses, you’ll find the inclusive, relational and highly practical approach we are known for with new ideas to radically improve behaviour. This book is a must-read for every school leader. If you want to create an inclusive school where children s behaviour is not only managed, but is changed as well, you should not miss out on reading this book. --Sue Cowley, teacher and education author

Even with boring old punishment, the natural creativity of schools cannot be suppressed. The names for isolation rooms bear this out beautifully. We casually refer to it as isolation, seclusion (like a secluded beach resort!), the hole, the growth mindset room, respite, the grade room, challenge!, the time-out room and, unbelievably, the inclusion room. I can think of nothing less inclusive than a cell. Heaping punishment on damaged children is not right.”
