The only real dud among these is Incantation of the Iron Soul, which is a victim of the fall dataslate, which made its ability to grant a 4+ Feel No Pain against mortal wounds pretty weak. Overall they didn’t tweak as many of the dataslates as they did with Necrons, but GW did move some rules in stratagems over to units as a whole.

This book also contains a one-use code to unlock Codex: Adeptus Mechanicus content in Warhammer 40,000: The App. This is really boosted by the fact that in a lot of cases with Detachments you’ll be leaning into different makeups of army, giving you lots of differing building blocks in how you assemble your force. We’ll be having a full deep dive into what all of these detachments do, and delve into the awesome narrative Crusade content later in this review. The bulk of these Stratagems are melee buffs, with a couple of defensive buffs thrown in the mix to help your units fall into melee. This is amazing – stick it on a Dominus for example leading a big unit of breachers and the enemy not only has to get through your decent armour, but also a feel no pain roll against the single point of damage. There are 18 potential Archeotech Treasures to reconstruct, but these aren’t the only remnants of Humanity’s glorious past on offer. I don’t expect to see this one used that often but watch one will pop up that will wreck my Chaos guys. You can either choose a Power Source, or roll a second die in the hopes of finding a more specific component – a Weapon Part , a Force Field Part , or a Techno-arcana Part .

The Rad-Zone Corps Stratagems see quite substantial re-works, which do a lot to change the overall playstyle of the detachment. This is ace as you can now potentially steal objectives by getting a quick unit of Sicarians in to strip the OC off them! You’ll still blow this occasionally to try and save a Breacher brick, but it could have been so much more. It’s not the hit new sound sweeping the 41st Millennium – it’s the tell-tale signs that the dogmatic cults of the Adeptus Mechanicus are marching to war. More on that in the Stratagems section below, but it’s something you should keep in mind while seeing what else this detachment has to offer. Next we have Machine Superiority which not only makes the unit eligible to shoot in a turn in which it Fell Back, but also allows it to ignore all modifiers to its characteristics and any modifiers to any roll or test made for it (with the typical exclusion to any modifiers to its saving throws). This author immediately scoured the codex to find something with Deadly Demise d6 or better but couldn’t find any.

There’s a pleasingly broad set of stuff to play with here, and a relatively even spread of goodies between them.Personally, I’m a big fan of running and gunning with big units of Breachers shooting away on the move at increased AP, especially as they get to reroll hits if they are near Skitarii. In addition to this there is another mechanic that runs parallel where your force has heard whispers of some even rarer and more powerful Archeotech, and over the course of a campaign you try and gather locational data to find where it is.
