Despite his success and influence, Banksy remains committed to his anonymity, and has said in interviews that he sees himself primarily as a street artist rather than a traditional gallery artist. His work continues to inspire and challenge viewers around the world, and has helped to redefine the boundaries of what is considered art. Record price for Banksy bomb art". In March 2014, Banksy reworked the, by then, extremely high-profile stencil to mark the third anniversary of the civil war in Syria. The redesigned image was used to promote #withsyria, a campaign to raise awareness and rally support for the victims of the three-year-long conflict. The campaign denounces ‘years of brutality and bloodshed that have turned Syria into the epicentre of a massive humanitarian crisis’. In this version, Girl With Balloon appeared with a headscarf to depict a Syrian refugee. McDermott, Josephine (7 February 2014). "London Banksy Girl and Balloon mural to be removed". BBC News. Normally their work is satirical and uses dark humour to put across a certain message.

Residents discovered the workaround 6:20 in the morning where a child, possibly cupid, is shown with a slingshot shooting flowers above her. 2.Escaping Prisoner – Reading Prison Banksy's "There is Always Hope" is one of the artist's most iconic works, featuring a young girl reaching for a red heart-shaped balloon. The image has become a symbol of hope and resilience in the face of adversity, and has been reproduced on countless products and in various forms of street art.

Banksy, the mysterious street artist, painted a minimalist, innocent picture on a white shop wall in Shoreditch, London, 20 years ago: a little girl, windswept and monochromatic, grasping for a brilliant red, balloon shaped like a heart. Banksy was not yet a household name at that stage. He was a specialist artist, revered by Bristol underground graffiti artists and becoming increasingly infamous for the humorous large-scale artworks he created throughout London and Bristol. He is now a (still unknown) global sensation, and that modest Shoreditch painting has become one of the most enduring images of this century. The artwork’s ascension to icon status was gradual. Following the first Shoreditch stencil and the second iteration in London’s Southbank, both of which emerged later in 2002, the piece remained nothing more than a local street artwork, appealing to pedestrians but unknown to the larger cultural environment. One of Banksy's most consistent messages is the idea that we should question authority and challenge the status quo. He frequently uses his art to critique government policies, social norms, and cultural values, often taking aim at the powerful and privileged. Another work in which Banksy uses the motif of the heart-shaped balloon against a scene of despair is featured in this print, the powerful Kids on Gun Hill, which shows a girl, and a boy with a teddy bear, holding hands atop a hill of weapons as the balloon rises up between them.

Hull is another city where Banksy works can be found dotted around the city with the most noted one being the ‘Draw the Raised Bridge’ artwork found on the Scott Street Bridge. However, since it’s unveiling in 2018, the bridge has been designated for demolition which means the mural will have to be moved to a new location in the city centre. While there’s been no further word on where this mural is going, you can see another on the city’s Queen Street. Located in a car park off the main carriageway, there is a mural depicting 2 children gazing up at Mary Poppins who is flying off with a Lidl bag in tow. There have been rumours among the locals as to whether it’s a genuine Banksy but given its styling and the characteristic nod to capitalism in the Lidl bag, it’d have to have come from a very good copy-cat. Balloons signify happiness- and Banksy makes that very clear by making it the only aspect of the image that has color. Balloons often remind us of happy occasions and celebrations. When inflated, balloons only go up- but after a short amount of time they deflate and go down- an unavoidable occurrence. This mimics the behavior of a child’s imagination. A mind that pushes beyond limits, but then eventually hits a point of adulthood and loss of that innocence. This graffiti artwork by Banksy was produced in New York and was painted over the rolled-down shutters of a club. Banksy risks breaking election law with offer of art prints for anti-Conservative voters". ITV. 3 June 2017. Archived from the original on 25 January 2021 . Retrieved 10 June 2017.
