They bought the DVDs of the three movies when they first came out, then the trilogy box set, then the extended editions, limited editions, extended trilogy, and finally, in April of 2010, the long-awaited Blu-ray edition.

Boasting marginally improved video and audio for the second and third movies, as well as now holding all of the extras previously available on both the Extended Edition SD-DVDs and the Limited Edition Theatrical SD-DVDs (i.The Lord of the Rings Trilogy - The Extended Edition includes a new transfer of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring , which was remastered from the original 2k digital files, and it all comes in multi-disc elite packaging inside a premium rigid slipcase. The characters who get the most additional screen-time in this cut would probably be Merry (Dominic Monaghan), Pippin (Billy Boyd), and Treebeard (voiced by John Rhys-Davies). which allows one to sample the seven layers that went into creating the soundtrack for the battle, along with an eighth final version option.

Here they were Michael Horton and Jabez Olssen, and Jackson talks about the process where in which he gets to see a rough cut put together first, with often crude animation filling in for the uncompleted sequences. Fans of the Blu-ray format know just what it is truly capable of: the new Picture-in-Picture tracks, Video Commentaries and so forth really bringing out the best of the technology. Even on SD-DVD discs; even with no new extra features – this package is still leagues ahead of pretty-much anything else on the market. For completeness, I'll run through the list of what we do get, but those who are familiar with any of the previous releases should know just what to expect in terms of quantity AND quality of extras. Now back when the theatrical edition Blu-ray was being promoted – just prior to release – there was a big ‘net hubbub about how these were going to be remastered transfers. From the merry life of the shire to the eerie whispering of the ring to the ugliness of Saruman's snarling, growling army of orcs, the entire range of effects is treated with stalwart fidelity. I like LOTR quite a bit, but I'm not a fanatic (I've read all of the books, plus The Hobbit and have seen all the movies). Four Hobbits (Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd) join up with a Dwarf (John Rhys-Davies) an Elf (Orlando Bloom), a wizard (Ian McKellan) and two humans (Sean Bean, Viggo Mortensen) to destroy a ring that controls the fate of the world. It's obvious that Peter Jackson and all those involved with the production of this extended version box set made their utmost efforts to produce a polished, rich and gratifying product. The first talks to and about the stunt people involved and the work they went through, and Viggo Mortensen's penchant for head butting. There’s no need to split the discussion into individual movies – these tracks are universally great. Taking all that into account you have a demo quality presentation for this third part, boasting excellent detail on both the long shots and the close-up images; superb colour representation, solid blacks that have no significant bleeding, and negligible digital tinkering. The set boasts more than 26 hours of additional content, highlighted by the rare behind-the-scenes documentaries created by Costa Botes, the filmmaker given unprecedented access to the set of each production by Peter Jackson. Academy Awards® (2003): Best Picture, Director (Peter Jackson), Adapted Screenplay, Art Direction/Set Direction, Costume Design, Editing, Makeup, Score, Original Song “Into the West,” Sound Mixing and Visual Effects The final battle for Middle-earth™ begins.
