I'm finding this a lovely machine to use as a replacement for a very basic old Singer that I'd had for years. It is smooth and easy to use and has reasonably good instructions too. The needle threader had me foxed for a while because the instructions seem to overcomplicate it, but I soon got the hang of it. The range of different stitches is great and the instructions helpfully describe the best uses for each one. I really like the drop in clear bobbin with a clear top cover so that you can see exactly how low the bobbin thread is; it makes life so much easier than having the bobbin hidden away from sight and liable to run out of thread at the most inconvenient moments. The machine is let down a little by the dreadful flimsy plastic cover that it is supplied with - I'm really not sure why Singer provide this at all, because it is all but useless to protect the machine and it is a shame that a machine of this quality doesn't come with a good quality protective case. I bought a proper bag for the machine as soon as I saw it, so as long as you accept that you'd need to buy your own bag for it, it's not a problem. Choose from 2 different one step buttonhole styles. Buttonhole sewing is a one step simple process, providing reliable results. Each side of the buttonhole is sewn in the same direction, creating beautifully balanced buttonholes. Singer have a long history and are very well known for manufacturing some fantastic machines. In fact, they have brought remarkable new ideas to market over the years. Not revolutionary, but good features like the thread end cutter on the needle plate. Once the bobbin is loaded, the thread end is cut off at the correct length and you are ready to start sewing. No more having to turn the handwheel 360 degrees to bring the lower bobbin thread to under the presser foot before starting to sew.
