Description

All recordings on the HDR-1800T are encrypted and in their encrypted state can only be played by the HDDR-1800T that recorded them. On the networking side, Humax’s TV Portal brings you a selection of online content. It’s split into ‘Featured Apps’ and ‘My Apps’ – the former offers BBC iPlayer and YouTube, while the latter lets you install other apps from the App Market.

I use two pieces of software ie Windows Media Player and/or VLC (great bit of kit - deserves a serious look at). The “On Demand” button displays the most popular Catch-up services, which are all in one place, providing easy access to the the world of iPlayer, ITV Hub, ALL4, Demand 5 and UKTV what are my options for transferring the files themselves rather than streaming to my PC and recording them (again)? I am quite capable of fitting a bigger hard disk – I used to build PC’s! And like any PVR worth its salt the HDR-1800T lets you pause and rewind live TV, record a programme you’ve been watching from the two-hour memory buffer (Time Shifted Recording) or record an entire series at the touch of a button. Freeview staples like subtitles, audio description, digital text and interactive services are all supported. Although the HDR-1800T is like a computer it only has two drivers for wi-fi dongles and so you will need to try them out to see if they work.

Yes. And that is the preferred method by some as the radio and standard definition recordings will be decrypted on copy (and also the HD ones if you use foxy on each one of then you want decrypted).

The HDR-1800T uses a suitably high bitrate to ensure that there’s no drop in quality when you record TV shows on the HDD– they look identical to the live broadcast. Live TV App, when installed on a mobile device and paired with the FVP-5000T when in the home, provides a multi-room solution for viewing TV in another room. Both the .Ts and .Tts files played almost instantaneously in VLC. I would think that VLC would mean more to yourselves because a lot of it is meaningless to me, so I kept with all the defaults. Is open source and available for loads of platforms (but not 9 3/4). More info - https://www.videolan.org/vlc/ When we compare free-to-view TV services Freeview Play, YouView and the Freesat, — the Freesat satellite television service has the advantage of offering more channels, including HD ones. The key difference, though, is that Freesat is delivered through satellite, not an aerial. Like FiestaOwner, I too have a HDR-2000T, the only differences to the 1800 being that it has a 500GB (a few can have a 1TB one, rare though) hard disk rather than the 350GB one on the 1800, and it also has a USB 2 port if you want to upload video or photos for storage (which I used, though just to see if it worked).

Search the forum

is probably just the wrong side of the digital cliff. Sometimes old or physically damaged cable can cause odd effects too. Surfing channels is easy – you can view the channel list, set up Favourite lists to weed out channels you never watch or browse programmes in the terrific electronic programme guide. If you were to attach a USB flash drive or a USB external HDD then you could copy recordings to the drive using the functions on the HDR-1800T. Any standard or Radio recordings will be very slow to export to the drive as the HDR-1800T will decrypt the copy. If you use FTP directly to a PC the transfer will be a lot faster but none of the recordings will be decrypted. Before you copy the HD recordings to the USB Flash, or USB HDD, then you could use a 3rd party piece of software called foxy to tweak one of the recording's internal flags. If you did this then the HD programmes would also be decrypted on USB copy. Details about foxy can be found on another Humax forum called hummy.tv.

Any Wi-Fi dongle will need to be attached to the USB port directly and cannot be used via a USB hub. The major advantage of the Manhattan T3-R is that it can give you TV in 4K quality, with incredible colours and sharpness. You can also watch YouTube on your TV screen. Made with a 500GB hard drive, it can store up to 300 hours of recordings. Like the Humax models, this one can pause and rewind live TV and has a search function. Besides, you can record an entire series and plan your viewing up to a week in advance. However, the Manhattan T3-R can record fewer simultaneous programmes — just two at once.

The fascia is minimally adorned with a few stylised buttons controlling power, volume and channel changing. A sliver of light peeps out from below the central ridge, glowing red when recording or blue when watching live TV. There’s no LED readout – everything you need to know is displayed onscreen. Concerned that recording one show will stop you from watching another? No need to worry – the built-in twin digital tuner on this Humax model allows you to watch that dancing finale with your friends, while recording that family favourite to watch later on. You can even record an entire series at just the touch of a button, where new episodes will be automatically recorded as soon as they become available. The Humax Freeview box has the ability to show pictures in Full HD quality for stunning colour and sharpness. On demand and Catch up programmes are also available in HD. Audio output is highlighted by Dolby Digital Plus and Pulse sound, so you get the purest and cleanest cinema sound in your living room. But it’s more than just a PVR – with BBC iPlayer and YouTube on board you get a wealth of free video content at your fingertips, plus the wide range of supported media formats makes it an excellent entertainment hub for your DLNA and USB devices.

New TV Guide Surf & Scan Banner When watching TV press, the ‘OK’ button a banner appears at the bottom of the screen displaying programme information. Press either the up or down arrows around the OK button to scroll up and down the channel list displayed on the left hand side of the screen, if you then press ‘OK’ again the programme synopsis will be displayed in a larger pop up panel. This provides the option to record the programme or series or set a reminder! The ultimate subscription-free TV experience: the T3-R perfectly combines over 85 Freeview channels with on demand TV from BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, My5, UKTV Play and more. Through the Humax TV Portal, you’ll also find apps like BBC iPlayer in case your busy schedule has got in the way of your daily TV routine. Set-up and Connectivity I would expect that you've got a donkey's years old group A aerial from the analogue days, connected with dubious cable. This was fine for that and for most of the digital muxes given the high power that CP has. The trouble is that channels 55 and 56, which are COM7 and COM8, are well outside the response of such an aerial, which typically covers 21-37.
