However, it was Dawn of the Dead, Romero’s follow up to Night, made a decade later, that is arguably more iconic. I skimmed through the original cut of ‘Document of the Dead’ though and that doesn’t go as far into looking at the influences of the Dead movies and doesn’t have anything about the post-Dawn entries into the franchise. The surround channels are also much more subdued, utilized almost exclusively for very light atmospheric effects.

The blankness of the zombies lumbering through the mall with grey faces also stands out more and ties into the themes of the film better than if they had been given full appliances like every Dead film since. I’m not opposed to the idea of remakes, as many GREAT classic films are actually remakes of other sub-par or less desirable sources ( Ben Hur, Twelve Monkeys, The Thing), but I always approach them with a sense of trepidation and suspicions, as they are just as easily a rip-off without additional enjoyment as they are a new classic. The mono track is clean and bright, and as faithful as you can get to the original cinematic experience.aspect ratio, and uses 10-bit video depth, High Dynamic Range, a Wide Colour Gamut (WCG) and is encoded using the HEVC (H. Things don’t get much better there, as the security guards try to control the group, and it’s not until they overpower and take things over themselves that they have a semblance of freedom. The Romero, Savini and Christine Forrest commentary is an enjoyable look back at the shoot with plenty of interesting facts and anecdotes. And The Argento cut, which, again, some prefer due to its much faster pacing and musical score, but this is offset by missing huge swathes of characterisation, some of the best gags and some, what appear to be, indiscriminate cuts to action scenes – for me the worst of the presentations; but at least everyone has something. We hope you’ll join us in our goal of building a strong community of like-minded enthusiast who have chosen to post with civility and in the spirit of uplifting others.

Clarity/Detail: Dawn of the Dead features a new 4K scan from the original negative with inserts from the 2K digital intermediate for the unrated footage. track is awful, mixed too tight, with dialogue almost muffled and artificial sounding surround ambience. Each cut (Theatrical, Extended 'Cannes' and Argento) are presented in 4K on
Second Sight's new boxset. Sadly, the surround remix is the least favorite of the three, as it largely feels exaggerated and artificial. The exaggerated red blood looks astonishingly yucky, while neon signs within the mall have a fresh luminosity. From visionary filmmaker Zack Snyder (300, Army Of The Dead, Zack Snyder's Justice League), comes a nightmarish vision where society is endangered by a mysterious virus that turns people into mindless, flesh-eating zombies, and a handful of survivors must wage a desperate, last-stand battle to stay alive .

Saturation is set to hyper mode, beginning with intense, glowing flesh tones right on the precipice of bleeding. The overall UHD package is highly recommended for hardened fans and makes for an awesome addition to the 4K library. discs with the soundtrack, the novelization and a hardcover book full of trivia and tidbits - a real treat for any Dawn fan.

Sarah Polley (Splice), Jake Weber (Wendigo), Mekhi Phifer (Divergent) and Ty Burrell (Modern Family). He’s honest about some weaker effects (largely the blood colour) and talks about how his work advanced from this on to Day of the Dead. If there’s a singular line that defines the Dawn of the Dead remake, that’s it, both in terms of the post-9/11 zeitgeist and the change in tone. However, I'm more fascinated by the four living survivors played by Ken Foree, Gaylen Ross, David Emge and Scott Reiniger.
