Description

Playful, elegantly crafted and brimming with some of the most unforgettable images in his filmography, Fascination embodies Jean Rollin at his very best – venturing outside his usual comfort zones and extending the definition of his filmic universe in the process. Both the Dutch, German X-Rated and UK Dark Side releases contain anamorphic presentations of the film, but please note that neither the UK and German releases contain a 'true' anamorphic transfer but have simply been processed through an aspect ratio converter. The usual five Rollin Blu-ray-related trailers are also included along with liner notes by Video Watchdog's Tim Lucas.

If you plan on zooming in on this non-anamorphic disc with a static zooming feature (meaning only zooming in to one point, as opposed to some DVD player's ability to zoom in increments), think twice about this disc; the subtitles are position all the way at the bottom of this 1. Luckily Eva comes to the rescue dressed in only a black cloak and some long leather boots and swinging a scythe at all the right people. Not surprisingly, the actors have little opportunity to do more than serve as gorgeous set decoration; the subtitled dialogue is almost extraneous. SPECIAL FEATURES: Cast-Crew Interview(s), Interactive Menu, Photo Gallery, Scene Access, Trailer(s), SYNOPSIS: This erotic horror film from controversial cult director Jean Rollin is among his best.

Unable to leave due to the gun-toting bandits outside and now unwilling to leave anyway due to a notable degree of sexual enticement from Eva, Marc is destined to be swept up in the strange activities that are about to take place in the castle. The scenes with Brigitte slaying with the scythe could've been more effective if they were more graphic.

The original film was made over 90 years ago and recorded on material which in no way was long-lasting.So for the 'true' anamorphic transfer, the Dutch release would seem to be the best, whereas the UK Dark Side release contains the best range of extras. Sadly, the French Dolby Stereo track doesn't fair much better, as an array of pops and noisy hissing come up frequently. Yet there's something about the feasting elements that blend well with its ideas, though all the uniqueness in the world cannot shelter a film so light on story with the plotholes and poor supportive acting structure that it exhibits. After a struggle with his hostage he is located in the woodland by the other thieves and is forced to take refuge in the aforementioned castle, where he meets the two girls.
