Maintain selfless dedication to duty, even when your loved ones are ungrateful. True love, skill, and huge self-control overcome many obstacles. Try to do the right thing even when all your choices are bad. In a land without magic, an assassin is summoned to the castle. She has no love for the vicious king who rules from his throne of glass, but she has not come to kill him. She has come to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three murderers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she will be released from prison to serve as the King’s Champion. Feyre, Tamlin, and his scarred, loyal friend Lucien are conscientious and loyal and make many sacrifices for one another. Faerie Alis is a faithful servant to Tamlin, as are his friends who willingly give their lives to help save their country.Frankly, I am glad that I didn’t discover the Throne of Glass series until it was over, because I would have been so impatient waiting for the next books in the series to be released!!!

Having waited for a long time to see on Sarah's blog that this would be published, I almost started crying when I found out it would be - the only reason I didn't was that I had gone quite numb from excitement A fan on Goodreads I've been considering reading the Court of Thorns and Roses series too, but, one the one hand, opinions tend to set this series better than the throne of glass one, so I'm afraid that if I read this one first, then I won't like the throne of glass books. And I've also heard about some uncomfortable sexy scenes going on on the Court of Thorns series, so again my dilemma about not being kind of a sexy-romance reader. The libraries all either say it's mature or for like 15 years old and up but really it's not even that mature. I do feel like adults like to exaggerate the amount of graphicness in books like these because they don't want their kids to know about these things because they feel like they're too young to be exposed to these kinds of things.

Sarah J. Maas Press Reviews

Just so you know what to expect, I am going to talk about this series and my experiences reading it, and what I think about it. However, I am going to try to avoid spoiling the books for you if you’ve never read the series, FYI. Yes, there is. But it is not a huge focus of the books and is not terribly integral to the plot. Without giving anything away, while there is some romancy type stuff in the first 2 books, most of those books are focused on the mail character making her way through all of her various challenges. The relationship type stuff is a bit of an afterthought. Do I wish my daughter's never had to know or experience the most unpleasant side of of sexism and objectification? Of course. Will it serve them to pretend it doesn't exist and censor any material that alludes to it? Absolutely not. Children are corrupted not by the content they consume so much as by the repeated actions of society that doesn't fail to reach their notice.
