About this deal

It’s about things that are useful or things that later on bring incredible pleasure by knowing them.

Lingua Latina utilizes methods that are more natural in terms of language acquisition, seeking to have the learner think in the Latin language. To find out about other components and levels in this course, please contact us and we'd be very happy to advise. It is the type of book that I wished I had myself when learning Latin many years ago: an exciting short novel in a very classical style. What it has in common with the other readers, is the fact that there are many short stories and passages from Roman authors. The book contains eight classical fairytales; Cinderella, Diamonds and Toads, Bluebeard, Little Red Riding Hood, Little Thumbling, Puss in Boots, Donkeyskin and Sleeping Beauty. I find that one of Oxford Latin Dictionary’s greatest strengths lies in the clear disposition of its articles which makes finding the relevant sense comparatively easy for the reader. We ask experts to recommend the five best books in their subject and explain their selection in an interview.

The new UK/International 5th edition is currently underway, with Books I and II due to be published in 2022. Sometimes the book deviates to talk about Caecilius' two slaves, their cook Grumio, and Clemens, and their frequent humorous mishaps.

The best thing to do is to read Fabulae Syrae first as there will be a lot of overlapping vocabulary and subject matter. Like many Latin readers, the Oxford reader uses reading as a way to learn and strengthen knowledge of the Latin language. It’s not surprising that an awful lot of the code breakers at Bletchley Park—I don’t advocate this, it might be a bit like showing off—apparently, in their tea breaks, used to speak in Greek to each other. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. That’s where we get the word candidate from — and I don’t know when was the last time you heard the word political candidate and white, pure, unvarnished in the same sentence?

We hope you will continue to support us as we work to create a library of resources and options for your classrooms. This book introduces the nominative, dative, and accusative cases and different verb tenses including the present, perfect and imperfect. The city of Oxford has been a popular location for fictional murders for nearly a century, the ancient university and its beautiful buildings also lending themselves to wonderful screen adaptations. It is an entertaining book to read, with stories about Hercules, Odysseus, Perseus, and Jason and the Argonauts. The book starts by introducing a new family, a Roman aristocrat, Salvius, who is a successful lawyer and senator in Rome. The textbook everyone who ever learnt Latin should have had, and the one that everyone who wants to learn Latin now and in the future should have. On the whole, if you have 10 words of Latin in a sentence, translating that into English, you end up with 15 or 20 words.

The Cambridge Latin Course is a well-established and successful Latin programme developed by the Cambridge School Classics Project.Somehow it was shameful that these subjects were difficult to learn, and so they had to be dumbed down. Asterix Gallus, the Latin version, has good, easy Latin and, particularly if you’ve read Asterix the Gaul in English first, it’s a really good way of learning your first proper Latin sentences.
