I’d heard of it before but never committed to actually picking it up and giving it a read but I feel as though I’m hooked on Slimani’s writing and can’t wait to devour some more. When she is forced to give up the desires for mere days, she becomes so depressed that she’s almost catatonic. This also has a terrific sense of place – it's a great Paris novel, full of the city's meaningful geography, and Adèle herself is a quintessential Parisienne, who feels an existential horror at her husband's plan to move to a big house en province.
