Still, it can help to lend an ethereal quality to a painting, whether it be a landscape or some sort of fantasy themed subject. You will find the donation buttons below and can follow us on ko-fi to stay informed of the latest news. For this exercise I am using the Light Grey Clairfontaine Pastelmat which is a fantastic support for these (and I suspect many other) watercolour pencils.

The Derwent Graphitint pan set would make a fun and interesting gift for an artistic friend or family member. However, this is another case of be careful what you wish for, if this range, as is the same issue with the Derwent Drawing Range, was increased, then you would start to lose the absolute uniqueness of the colour range, turning both sets into ordinary run of the mill pencil sets. I don't normally list the colours in my written reviews, mainly because I can review sets that have 120 colours in them.Derwent Graphitint Pencils have the same properties in terms of hardness and solubility in water as Derwent's popular 4B Watersoluble Sketching Pencil, so you can experiment with adding colour but retain all the familiar qualities of your favourite graphite pencil. As you can see from the swatch above, the colours dry can be viewed as similar, that is until you activate them with water. Graphitint is an easy to hold 8ply round pencil with a 4mm strip, perfect for broader strokes but can also be used for specific detail when sharpened to a finer point.

A round 8mm diameter pencil with a 4mm strip that has the same physical properties as an 8B Watersoluble Sketching Pencil with the added versatility of coloured pigment. It may not have quite the same versatility of the Graphitint pencils – which can be left dry to provide only the slightest hint of colour or wet to become more vibrant – but what it lacks in that regard, it makes up for in portability. Cass Art, Cass Art London and the Cass Art logo are trade marks and trade names of Art-Line Limited. Graphitint will appeal to artists looking for something a little bit different but with all the familiar qualities of their favourite graphite pencils.Drawing using Graphitint is lovely, though I find not enough of the 'wet' colour is coming up on the dry version, so you need to be very careful of which pencil is what colour. One thing I have noticed in my time reviewing Derwent products, quality control is most certainly not an issue. I would certainly say that the Derwent Graphitint would be more beneficial for landscape artists or wildlife artists. The range consists of 24 fabulous colour tints, all with strips made exclusively from our superior quality graphite. The paper is heavyweight and water resistant meaning the pencil grabs the paper and does not buckle when water is applied.

You cannot blend them or completely erase them, and I think these only work best when mixed with water, very much like the Derwent Inktense pencils. You’ll be amazed at what happens when you add water to Derwent Graphitint, it just explodes into colour! Contains the following colours: Port, Aubergine, Dark Indigo, Slate Green, Ivy, Chestnut, Cool Brown, Cocoa, Storm, Midnight Black, Cloud Grey and Cool Grey. My review today focuses on the popular Derwent Graphitint range, the range is relatively small in numbers, however the colours are to die for and unsurpassed by many other watersoluable pencils on the market; but are they worth the investment?

A rating between 0 - 8 is given to each colour with 0 being extremely poor lightfast and 8 being the most lightfast. If your package does not arrive Royal mail requires us to wait for 14 working days before we are able to raise a claim. Although the range is small, as I have mentioned, all good things come in small packages, or in this version of the saying, all good things come in small quantity. When used dry, Graphitint provides just a hint of colour but adding water transforms the tint into rich, shimmering shades with an underlying, graphite sheen. The more water applied to each colour, the less lightfast it becomes - be careful around colours such as pinks and purples that have low lightfast numbers as these will fade far quicker than stronger colours.
