About this deal

Mouse’s Wood opens amid January’s snows and as we turn the pages we see the months unfold and follow Mouse’s seasonal activities: picnicking in May, collecting berries in September, and huddling around a camp fire in November. When a scary, fire-breathing dragon comes to visit, it's up to the damsel to take charge of her story and save the day for everyone. Some of the data that are collected include the number of visitors, their source, and the pages they visit anonymously. This joyful picture book encourages children to imagine the world as a vast library, with room on the shelves for everybody's story. Described as 'an utter gem' by the Telegraph, this exquisitely illustrated picture book with die-cut flaps follows the woodland ramblings of Mouse through the change in seasons.

I was at my last school for 4 years and we had ********* book fairs every term – and every term, I was disappointed by the narrow range of books. It is a celebration of our incredibly diverse world as it really is: home to 195 countries with thousands of different cultures, 10 million colours and 4,300 religions. By August, we’ve journeyed to Badger’s allotment, where ‘ armed with pots and spades and barrows‘ Mouse and Badger ‘ gather up/ the carrots and the marrows’.It was such a pleasure to meet you both, and I really appreciated how smoothly and professionally you ran everything. There was just the right amount of choice to suit everyone without being overwhelming and I received comments from parents and staff about the quality of books offered compared to previous sales which have always been based around current crazes and well known celebrity authors. Yourself and Bob are much cherished in our booky world and I personally really appreciate everything that you do. I haven't charted out my visits for the summer term, but I'm sure there are several in the south) and thanks so much for being so fantastic!

However, when we begin the book, we meet Mouse albeit by lifting the flap of his home and peeping in. At the end of the book a double page spread provides a guide of what to spot when you are out and about in the woodland. What’s more, alongside titles such as I Am the Seed that Grew the Treeor A First Book of Nature, we suggest this as a perfect gift, a year round source of joy and inspiration.

We cannot keep turning and thereafter browsing through the pages, investigating, enquiring, checking the rhyming text and exclaiming. We suggest it as an ideal gift choice alongside being a title to choose to linger over, snuggled up, or alone. Alice has also worked with Tate on an extensive range of children’s merchandise including many interactive ‘cut-out-and-make’ kits and children’s clothing. Eventually the healing process of drawing nature helped me rediscover my creativity, and create this book. Written in a gentle rhyme that reflects the slow pace of Mouse's rambling journey, and illustrated in the inimitable style of Alice Melvin, Mouse's Wood is a heart-warming celebration of slow living in nature.

This clever and funny inversion on a classic fairytale from award-winning author Bethan Stevens tells the laugh-out-loud story of a damsel who does not need saving!A lighthearted story with a subtle feminist undertone that celebrates the joy of pockets, and how they can unleash the inquisitive, adventurous spirit of all young children. Mouse moves on to wake up Hedgehog for the arrival of spring and as he continues along the path in the wood, Mouse's journey from friend to friend maps out the changes in seasons from January through to December, from picnicking among the bluebells with Mole in May and picking berries with Dormouse in June, to taking refuge in Fox's cozy caravan as winter draws in. They would also only drop off a case of books and leave us to run it – it was so lovely to have you on hand to chat to the children and recommend them books, as well as the small (but appreciated! Publication dates are subject to change (although this is an extremely uncommon occurrence overall). This experience has been fantastic primarily for the children, the school and also for me (professionally).
