About this deal

Fairburn's edition of the play is entitled The Devil among the Tailors, it includes an account of the event. Perhaps the most innovative and exciting aspect of this project is that with Benchmark’s help, AHEC has documented all elements of the manufacturing process and will be putting this together with life cycle data recently collected from the American hardwood industry to produce a full ‘cradle-to-grave’ life cycle impact report for the tables. Bar Skittles normally come in 2 sizes: 2 x 1 feet for familiy fun and domestic use and the 3 x 2 feet full-size game for pubs, clubs and those who want to take the game seriously.

the table of rectangular form with baluster turned gallery, on tapering fluted and turned and knopped legs with turned cup stands, the top with eight plated metal shaped sections on turned baluster supports fitted a pair of arched figural jester and three arched foliate half hoops with fruiting knopped finials - one foliate half hoop hung with a bell, together with a further figural arched half hoop formed as devil brandishing a sword with a bell, together with two plated diablos and a box containing a collection of approximately twenty turned baluster pegs or skittles, 84cm high, 167cm wide, 86. Usually, the objective is to be the first player to reach a score of one hundred and one although, if a cribbage board is being used to score, the game would be played to Sixty one.The Life Guards did their job so effectively that it was likened to a skittle ball ploughing through the skittles. The body of the table is a 3x2' piece of ply, with the walls and plinth constructed from offcuts of Oak skirting board acquired from a local hardwood timber supplier.

Built in 1504 by Prior Thomas Docwra, St John’s Gate was the south gateway to the Priory of Clerkenwell, the headquarters of the Knights of St John of Jerusalem. I've used the same idea for the swivel as the one on another Devil's table I used to own, which is an old bicycle hub cut in half, and in this case mounted on top of a section of an old fishing rod.The one I had was far too light for the job, but I got round this be filling the wide cavity with a generous quantity of lead solder. I was lucky enough to have some offcuts of Mahogany which have done the job, though strictly speaking the pins shown here are a little too stout for serious league play. It's also located in a very good pub, the Jolly Brewer in Stamford, which is also home to a team in the local Pushpenny League as well as the usual Pool, Darts, Cards and Dominoes.

The walnut gave the piece an intense richness which worked very beautifully with the brass foot rail. For us, working closely with Wallpaper, Benchmark and AHEC during both the design development and production stages of this creative collaboration resulted in a far richer process, and an unexpected and exciting end product. For much of the information on this blog I am indebted to the work of Arthur Taylor, author of Played At The Pub, the definitive work on the British pub game tradition. g. if the first throw scores 5 and the total of three throws scores 8, the score for the turn is "5 - 8".In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. To prepare each nine miniature pins are positioned on a small platform within the square game board. The game can be seen in a pub setting in the Beatles film A Hard Day's Night at the 1 hour 4 minute mark. The equipment is strikingly similar to the game still played around Cambridge, with the exception of the leather cheeses. Most of the basic construction of a table like this is relatively simple given a few woodworking tools, and in this case a collection of assorted bits and bobs of finished wood.
