About this deal

I can honestly say that I have never felt as sad to have finished a story as I have when I cane to the end, not just of Edge of Eternity, but the end of the Century Trilogy. A good ending to the three-book saga, but the worst of the three books, the Edge of Eternity continues the story of The rise and fall of the Soviet Union, tying with it the American civil rights movement, the Vietnam war, and the effects of rock and roll on swaying public opinion on politics.

Wrapping up a huge sweeping trilogy can be difficult, but Follett does a great job tying up loose ends, giving justice and time to characters without making it feel too long or fake. From Washington, DC, Jakes experiences the Cuban Missile Crisis and the fallouts from both the JFK assassination and later the assassination of his boss, Robert Kennedy. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Once again, the major characters are the children of the characters who were seen in the first two novels. It is an epic book and it does cover some huge and complex history, mainly the Cold War and Civil Rights Movement but I think it lost its way and let some of the strongest elements of the first two books just fizzle out.Its sequels, World Without End and A Column of Fire, and prequel The Evening and the Morning, proved equally popular, and the Kingsbridge series has sold more than fifty million copies worldwide. Originally, he had probably intended no more than a flirtation as a way of getting inside the house. For example, if Bobby Kennedy hadn’t been shot and become President in 1968 rather than Nixon, would the Vietnam war have ended sooner and thousand of lives have been saved? With the hand of a master, he brings us into a world we thought we knew but now will never seem the same again. The courts serve the judges, the lawyers, the police, the government—everyone except the victims of crime,” he said.

Nothing comes of that, and the book focuses on the fraternal twins of Volodya's sister (whose marriage no one was thrilled about). The novel's characters become involved in a number of the most significant global events during the period, including the Cuban Missile Crisis, the British Invasion, the Kennedy Administration, the Watergate scandal, and the Civil Rights Movement. It was certainly satisfying finishing this trilogy, but I am still looking forward to his next book!
