What the original Child’s Play has going for it more than any other films in the series is the reality of the situation and how it relates to real life. We’re engaged by Andy and Karen and we’re concerned when their world is thrown into chaos, as well as the possibility that they may be torn away from each other. As someone who grew up with a working single mother, the film is very personal for me in that regard, as I’m sure it is for many other children coming from divorced families. The other factor is how gritty the film is. It pulls very few punches, even when it comes to Andy’s safety. Sexual Meter: 1 Strike. This film is pretty much a 1 star on the sexual meter. There is zero nudity, zero bed scenes, no make out stuff what so ever. I will note one tiny part that shows nothing, but is on the suggestive side. A woman tries to ask a man for information regarding the doll. The man wants her to pay for his information, she tries to give him money but he wants her body instead. He pushes her and the suggestive part is that he wants to sexually assault her, when she is then saved by the detective. There is nothing shown, but it's something that I just wanted to give a note of warning too about that one part. I have to admit that when I stumbled upon this series, then I hadn't actually heard about it being made, so it was a surprise to find this. Needless to say that I had to watch it, as I have seen all of the movies in the franchise and always found the movies enjoyable. Gore/Violence Meter: 3 Stars. There is some blood/gore, but if you looking for a high blood splatter gore fest, you won't find it here. This gets ranked 3 stars for mainly violence. If people and a doll being shot, a few fairly mildly graphic stabbings with a little blood don't bother you, then you will be fine watching Child's Play. The film features an amazing cast that includes early appearances by future stars including Mona Washbourne ( My Fair Lady), Ballard Berkeley (Fawlty Towers) and the beloved Peter Sallis, ( Last of the Summer Wine). It’s based on a script by Don Sharp, who also worked on the film as an assistant. After moving to a new city, young Andy Barclay receives a special present from his mother—a seemingly innocent Buddi doll that becomes his best friend. When the doll suddenly takes on a life of its own, Andy unites with other neighborhood children to stop the sinister toy from wreaking havoc.
