Ibiza has made a name for itself as being the clubbing capital of Europe, but the island itself is making efforts to show that it has much more to offer than nightclubs and cheap shots, which isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. My tastes had evolved by this point; I liked to sleep and good food, and my eardrums. Some of the roads down to the beaches are pretty steep and things can become a bit hairy! I’d also recommend taking out full insurance for this reason. When I was a teenager I was desperate to go to this mythical island. I’d heard of the clubs, the DJs, and the “sleep when you’re dead” mentality and it sounded so darkly glamorous I was dying to be a part of it. Why it’s awesome: Playa d’en Bossa is the longest beach in Ibiza, stretching for some two kilometres (1.2 miles). The sandy strip is wide and the sparkling waters are shallow. Attracting many visitors keen to lap up the sun and vibe, there are also quieter parts where visitors can escape the crowds. Just a short distance from Ibiza Town, there are various activities available at the beach as well as a wide range of places to eat and drink. Facilities include bathrooms and showers. Its famous green wooden walkway that reaches out into the crystal waters is instantly recognisable, and beach dwellers love to stay until after sunset to sip on beers and soak up the good vibes. So, where is the quiet side of Ibiza? Crudely speaking, the north of the island is the most untouched and hippyish and most of the well-known nightclubs and activity are contained in the southwest. Whether it’s a planetary force or just what happens when a critical mass of souls come together to enjoy themselves, good things just seem to happen there.
