Then comes Evelyn, the evil mother-in-law. Overbearing, a little unstable, a lot intrusive, Evelyn is pretty much the mom that wives dread. Still, Sam is so great … anyone who raised him has to be a good person, right? As I put my beautiful white wedding dress on, I try to ignore my fears. I look in the mirror and feel more beautiful than I ever have before. I know marrying Sam is the right choice. He's the best thing that ever happened to me. I reach for my bright yellow roses, and I force myself to be as cheerful and sunny as those flowers. I won't dwell on everything that's happened recently - ever since we agreed to stay with his parents for the weeks ahead of the wedding. Glancing down at my sparkling engagement ring, I pretend to myself I can forger about all the 'accidents' I keep having, or about his mother's barbed comments and the dark looks she gives me. Karen is a member of the Romantic Novelists’ Association, the Society of Authors, the Crime Writers’ Association and the Society of Women Writers and Journalists. She now lives in Spain where she loves to spend her non-writing time exploring the quaint local towns with her husband, Dave, when she isn’t sunbathing or swimming in the pool, that is. Today is my wedding day. And I don’t know if I’ll make it out alive…As I put my beautiful white wedding dress on, I try not to ignore my fears. I look in the mirror and feel more beautiful than I ever have before. I know marrying Sam is the right choice. He’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I reach for my bright yellow roses, and I force myself to be as cheerful and sunny as those flowers. I won’t dwell on everything that’s happened recently – ever since we agreed to stay with his parents for the weeks ahead of the wedding. Glancing down at my sparkling engagement ring, I pretend to myself I can forget about the ‘accidents’ I keep having, that I can’t believe are coincidental. Or about his mother’s barbed comments, and the dark looks she gives me.And, just for today, while I walk down the aisle towards the man of my dreams, while I say ‘I do’, I’ll try to put the secret I know about the family I am marrying into right out of my mind. Even though that’s one secret that – if I was my soon-to-be mother-in-law – I might just kill to keep… An absolutely thrilling and gripping psychological suspense novel, perfect for fans of Shalini Boland, Shari Lapena, and The Woman in the Window. The Mother-in-Law by Karen King – eBook Details

Everyone does their best to get to know Cathy. But strange things are beginning to happen, and there is sibling rivalry and jealousy. The addition of Cathy into the family changes everything for everyone. To add to this, Mary is beginning to forget things. Mum means well; she’s just trying to make you feel welcome,” he murmured…. I can really really understand Dana’s unease at points. This novel consists of 69 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

It was hard to even feel sorry for the main character because every time she was about to stand up for herself she would end up reminding herself that she’s in love…so who cares what happens?!?! Mary lost her mother at a young age and grew up with her strict father. She was longing for love and a feeling of belonging. 15 year-old Mary meets Robbie who is 18 and part of a motorcycle gang. He is everything she is not, free, wild, rebellious… Mary falls pregnant and Robbie ended up in jail. Wow this book had me short of breath and my pulse palpitating … One of those books I cannot recommend highly enough. It’s gripping and emotional and leaves you wanting more … Fantastic.’ @rubie_reads However, the sweet and beautiful love story was tragically cut short following a painful battle with cancer that had taken Lily’s mother. As she puts on her elegant wedding dress, she tries hard to ignore her fears given that she has never looked so beautiful before. She believes Sam is her soul mate and she could not have been more grateful that she is marrying him.

It was love at first sight for Dana and Sam. And Dana could not believe how wonderful it was to be in love and to receive a marriage proposal after only four months of dating. And everything did run smoothly...the ceremony, the service, the reception, the speeches, the meal...everything up until the happy couple cut the cake. Sam places her hand over his as they cut into the bottom layer of their three tiered cake and playfully fed each other a couple of crumbs and luscious icing. And then everything changed. Her world suddenly falls out of focus as she falls to floor, the voices yelling seemingly in the distance. The last thing Dana saw before she passed out was the triumphant gleam in her mother-in-law's eyes. And now her beloved husband Paul was gone. Joanne and Jason were grown with families, children and lives of her own. For forty five years, Mary had kept her shameful secret to herself. For fear of losing her husband's respect, she'd never told him or her children. But now, what did she have to lose? The time had come to find Hope, her first born. I really don't want to spoil but Mary's attitude toward Jason and Joanne was horrible mid-book; like please stop pushing them away.

Other books by Karen King

Today I’m hosting a family party. One that’s different to every celebration we’ve had before. Because I’ve invited my secret daughter to it. I was originally drawn to this book by its interesting eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that this book is 'An utterly gripping psychological suspense novel with a twist you’ll never see coming. Perfect for fans of Lisa Jewell, Mark Edwards and K.L. Slater.' I am a huge fan of all three of these amazing authors so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a fan of Karen and if this is as good as 'The Stranger In My Bed', 'The Mother-in-Law' and 'The Perfect Stepmother' it is sure to be a gorgeous read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book). The Mother-In-Law is an engaging psychological thriller that will have the reader hooked from the get-go. The book itself isn’t very long and I finished it in 3 evenings (around 2 hours a day in between doing other things).
