About this deal

This book tells the story of one Amur Tiger - one who turns maneater, one with a vengeful attitude. Life in the Valley of Death: The Fight to Save Tigers in a Land of Guns, Gold, and Greed byAlan Rabinowitz Regarding Russian history in understanding human impact, you will see the conflicts and contradictions of heavy handed human ecosystem destruction hand in hand with conservation measures. A battle in itself with our blind weedy species weighing ever more on one end of the teeter-totter.

I couldn't place the time period of this children's novel, it could be a few hundred years ago at times, but it could be almost now, though we get a hint that this is closer to the mark when we learn that slavery was never abolished. One day, Adam stumbles upon a magnificent tiger - the Tyger of the story - as he flees a potential robber. His relationship with this tyger grows as he discovers that he has special powers that can not only help him but others to escape from tyranny. He shares these talents with a girl called Zadie and they work together to try to protect Tyger from the powers that are out to destroy her. A handful of reviewers didn’t enjoy this book. One called it “strange.” Another said that it wasn’t one of the author’s best books. And another said that the book was about animal abuse. Pros and Cons of A Tiger for Malgudi by R K Narayan Pros If you’ve seen the Life of Pi movie, you should read the original book that inspired it. The award-winning novel by Yann Martel is a tale about the unlikely bond that grows between a teenage boy named Pi Patel and a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. As a foreigner and immigrant myself, I encountered nothing but welcoming and pleasant behaviour from the UK citizens. UK is one of the loveliest countries in Europe and I'm very grateful to live here.

People and tigers don't coexist well. Especially in a place like Russia's "Wild East." But their population has modestly rebounded since Vaillant's book was written, due to intensive conservation efforts: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siberia... A little too fantastical for me at times, I like dystopian worlds and alternate realities. The audiobook put me off a bit, with the voices of the characters, I didn't warm to them really. I've read Said before, and was interested in his new title, but it's not a genre I usually reach for.

This book chronicles author Valmik Thapar’s experiences in Ranthambore National Park. Thapar has observed about 200 tigers over the past 40 years, each of which has its own unique traits. Set in an alternate London, and aimed at a youth audience, Tyger tells the story of a boy born in London to a Middle-Eastern migrant family. Doubling down on the oppression of modern London, this setting is in a British Empire that has an actual Emperor, slaves, and segregation that is maintained by a police state.

This story is a lot darker than I had expected going in, with very, very heavy themes of racism and prejudice throughout and even scenes of executions where it goes into quite a lot of detail. However, Tyger also has some very heartwarming moments too, Adam feels like a real boy with his own fears and worries and also feels very hopeful, in this world where everyone is terrible to anyone from another land, he still dreams of becoming an artist and selling his work, even though his parents have forbidden him from drawing. Our roundup of books about tigers includes several that draw attention to the plight of these magnificent big cats and the humans who risk their lives to protect them. In hunting societies, such as the Udeghe, the !Kung, the Haida, or the Sioux, animals were not merely food, they were seen as blood relatives, spiritual companions, hunting guides, and sources of power and connection to the surrounding world. The boundaries between the umwelten of humans and animals were, of necessity, much less rigidly defined.” In London, Adam delivers for his parents' business, dreaming of being an artist but forbidden from such dreams. Accidentally meeting a strange animal, an unknown 'tyger' hiding in the city from hunters, the possibilities of the world are opened up to him. Until he finds that the wounded animal is wanted by Maldehyde. He knows he must protect his new mentor/friend, and neighbour Zadie, herself the daughter of immigrants becomes his co-conspirator and partner as they brave the dangers of the enemy, society's prejudice and their position in the world to help the Tyger.

The book is a hunter's story, along the lines of the search for Lobo the Wolf in the American West. It is very similar in tone and respect. Additionally, the book is full of facts about tigers (who can jump from the water like dolphins, who kill bears on princple, and who sound surprising human), facts about Russia, and about animal biolgoy. One thing I couldn’t get my head around is the mob - I didn’t really find a full explanation of how it started or why it’s there. It feels like it just comes out of the blue. I would’ve loved to see a spark of rebellion or a development of the mob. It's one of those books that you get so absorbed in and you learn all of these interesting facts that you want to share with people... for instance (I just have to share!) tigers are known for their virility and their strength - and the Sanskrit word for tiger *vyagghra* was Anglicized into "viagra" for the well-known impotency medication. Interesting, right? Well, there's more to learn inside this book! This book should be on every library's wall, every bookshops recommended and every childs eventual reading list. The book supposedly took 9 years in the making, and I'm glad, as you can see each stroke of the key and pen as a decisive action by author and illustrator. Surely a classic to come. Tiger sightings in those days were uncommon because they were primarily nocturnal. In addition, the felines were extremely shy and not accustomed to being around people.
