Tendons are the fibers that join muscle to bone. Tendon repair in the hand is a difficult surgery because of the structure of the tendon. Tendon injuries can occur due to infection, trauma, or sudden rupture. There are 3 types of tendon repair: primary, delayed primary, or secondary. The ulnar nerve (C8-T1 nerve roots) arises from the medial cord of the brachial plexus and supplies all of the intrinsic muscles of the hand with a few exceptions. These are the muscles of the thenar eminence and the radial two lumbricals, which are supplied by the median nerve (C5-T1).
