About this deal

Tendons are the fibers that join muscle to bone. Tendon repair in the hand is a difficult surgery because of the structure of the tendon. Tendon injuries can occur due to infection, trauma, or sudden rupture. There are 3 types of tendon repair: primary, delayed primary, or secondary. The ulnar nerve (C8-T1 nerve roots) arises from the medial cord of the brachial plexus and supplies all of the intrinsic muscles of the hand with a few exceptions. These are the muscles of the thenar eminence and the radial two lumbricals, which are supplied by the median nerve (C5-T1). Choose from aluminium screw caps, tamper evident caps, child-resistant caps, lotion pumps and spray heads. For more information, see the Geeky Medics guide to the bones of the hand. Figure 1. This palsy can be due to damage to the nerve at any point along its course from the brain through the skull and in the face where it forms five main branches. The palsy can be complete (a total loss of function) or partial (a weakness rather than complete loss of movement) affecting all divisions of the nerve or only specific branches. As a result, there is great variability in the way that children with facial palsy are affected. Causes of facial palsy Plastic surgeons also manage soft tissue injuries from trauma – like burns, lacerations, crushed fingertips, hand fractures and dog bites, and also work on more complex cased like reattaching amputated limbs or facial reconstruction. This may be used when there is a bone fracture, or broken bone, in part of the hand, including the fingers. This type of surgery realigns the broken bone and then holds it in place, or immobilizes it, while it heals. Immobilization can be done with internal fixtures, such as with wires, rods, splints, and casts. Tendon repair

Emergency surgery for hand injuries and infections

Delayed primary repair is usually done a few days after the injury, but while there is still an opening in the skin from the wound. Flexor digiti minimi is on the radial side of the eminence and flexes the metacarpophalangeal joint of the little finger. Flexor pollicis brevis is on the ulnar side of the eminence and flexes the metacarpophalangeal joint of the thumb. The median nerve supplies sensation to the radial three and a half fingers on the palmar aspect and the nail beds dorsally. This is through the proper digital nerves that run on either side of the fingers. An injury can damage the nerves in the hand. This can cause a loss of hand function and a loss of feeling in the hand. Some nerve injuries may heal on their own. Others may require surgery. Generally, surgery is done about 3 to 6 weeks after the injury. This is the best time for nerve repairs that are linked with other more complicated injuries. The capitate is adjacent and articulates with the third and fourth metacarpals. Finally, the hamate articulates with the fifth metacarpal.
