Description

The Prime Drink which has caused chaotic scenes in supermarkets up and down the country in recent months has seen another rise in attention due to the release of the new flavour, which is said to be a one-time release, and once it's gone, it's gone according to reports. So out I walked with three bottles (one for me to try - and one each for my two stepsons who would never forgive me if I tried it without telling them). Success. It tastes okay, for me the flavours are a bit too powerful and a bit too sweet but then I'm not a teenager anymore. I'm sure young impressionable Greg might have liked it. For those who do not know, Prime is a hydration drink with sweeteners in an effort to "fill the void" to offer good taste as well as function. Many young people have been battling it out among parents to get their hands on the drink.

Social media personalities KSI and Logan Paul have been dominating the sports drinks scene since their launch of Prime Hydration, and they seem to be continuing their acceleration worldwide. In February this year, it was announced that several supermarkets including, ASDA, Aldi, Costco, Sainsbury's and more across the UK would be selling the viral drink to customers. This was a pleasant surprise, but the flavour too offered a double whammy of goodness. When I took a sip, it offered a sweet fruity sensation of sharpness and definitely impressed with a tropical tang with hints of orange, mango, passion fruit and pineapple. First up is Prime's Lemon and Lime flavoured drink. As soon as I opened the bottle, things were not pretty as I looked into the bottle to see a clouded bottle of what looked like flat lemonade. Sainsbury's have enforced a maximum of three drinks per customer rule to try and ensure that things remain fair and there is a chance for more people to get their hands on the beverage. Now for the one I have been really looking forward to - Prime Hydration's KSI Orange and Mango flavour. I was going into both drinks with high expectations, but the fact that this is KSI's own flavour, with his name attached, meant that I was looking for an impeccable drink.

The bottles are predicted to fly off the shelves as the viral drink is known to sell out extremely fast. During previous launches, huge queues have gathered as people try to get their hands on the product. It was a bit sour and bitter, but had no wow-factor that I thought was the reason for the drink's craze. It just tasted like simple lemon squash in all honesty, and the drink is supposed to have "bold, thirst-quenching flavours" that help you "refresh, replenish and refuel". KSI wanted to turn the tables and give the Americans the scarcity we’ve had as a country since these products have been released.

I'll begin with a little story if you'll indulge me, to set the scene the year is around 2002 and little Greg is as impressionable as they come. Me and two friends decided to head out on an expedition across a few fields to the next village over in South Yorkshire. Speaking on his own flavour, KSI said: "I've got a new flavour coming out, one of my very own. I already know - because it's limited edition as well - that it's going to go mad. I think people are just going to want to keep the bottle as well."Now if you've not come across Powerade before, it is a luminous drink made by the Coca-Cola company that comes in a variety of sweet flavours labelled as an isotonic sports drink. Young Greg fell for the marketing and we all decided it would be a great idea to get a bottle to power us on our way.

It’s a great taste but it tastes very familiar and instantly makes the limited edition status feel less limited knowing there’s another brand you could just nip out and buy that doesn’t have the popularity or star appeal as this particular drink. Tesco, Iceland, Sainsbury's and Waitrose safety warnings as items including cheese and Quorn pulled from shelves

The stench was potently strong and definitely caught me off guard, but did the flavour outweigh the smell and appearance? I am not so sure, as it tasted like a zesty and cloudy lemonade with an uncanny amount of sweeteners.

On the launch of the drink a Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “We know our customers actively seek the latest in product innovation. We are excited to be launching the following Prime Hydration products in store from Tuesday, February 21:

Wholesale Prime Drinks

After trying the KSI limited edition flavour it instantly reminded me of a J20 drink, almost identical to the Orange and Mango energy drink although the energy drink has a nice fizz to it but the still KSI limited edition bottle has an instant wink and nod to a J20 with a refreshing coconut twist. The drink has seen massive popularity due to Paul and KSI promoting it heavily, particularly around celebrity boxing events. They came up for the idea for the company after their own bout in 2019. It also gets a lot of attention on TikTok.
