About this deal

I wrote about the history of Bowser in my review of 71369-1 Bowser's Castle Boss Battle Expansion Set so I don't think I need to repeat myself here. As one of the most iconic video game bad guys Bowser in LEGO form was likely as inevitable as me getting sunburn on vacation. That said this set represents something rare in LEGO form. I could find almost no examples of a large scale creature build like this. There's plenty of mechs this size but not much that is suppose to represent something organic. The closest is the T-rex in set 75936-1. And maybe you can include the Harry Potter large scale minifigures or maybe Hedwig/Fawkes sets. When you lift the model, his legs drop, while when they are weight bearing, they fall into position, holding the model up. This is an extremely robust mechanism, which sees Bowser standing tall, regardless of how you may position the arms or head. Bowser can comfortably stand without his base and remains equally impressive, in my opinion. The character's bright colours are excellent and correspond with the source material, capturing an accurate mixture of yellow, tan, and two shades of green. The difference between the Koopa shell and Bowser's head is particularly effective and faithful to the villain's modern design.

The Super Mario 3D model building kit also has new for October 2022 LEGO elements to authentically recreate the appearance of Bowser's spikes I read years ago that LEGO was producing one off sets to personal specifications for highly affluent customers. I can't remember where I saw the article, but it was in a magazine, and it even showed images of two such sets. They had an official looking box with iirc a seven or eight digit set number in a range I had never seen before (makes sense for one off sets of course). One set was some huge town layout with several buildings and vehicles, while the other was some large Technic type set of some construction vehicle. Lego is doing a thing. They are 100% attuned to the fact that a (probably THE) driving force behind their resurgence, current popularity in the toy market, and outsized appeal to adults is due to a current generation that grew up and came of age in the 80s and 90s. Tan dominates Bowser's chest, so matches the source material. The segmented texture looks perfect and I think the balance between smooth and studded surfaces works nicely, continuing across the whole model. Furthermore, the spiked collar and bands around the character's arms include brilliant detail, again closely resembling Bowser's appearance in recent video games.

Overall

The Mighty Bowser stands 32cm tall when fully built, and the big guy has a button that can control his head and jaw movements for extra articulation. What price does the reviewer want it to be? He obviously knows lego and what goes into each model. How can he come to a conclusion that this is an expensive price for what you're getting. Very strange. " Appreciate the king of the Koopas when you build, display and play with LEGO® Super Mario™ The Mighty Bowser™ (71411). Seriously, we are going to go into a blow by blow description of the building process, so stop. Unless you want to see how things proceeded from the beginning… What’s in the Box?

Given the steady pace of these things, I’m thinking something along the lines of the first UCS ISD, where the directive handed down from on high was simply, “Build something cool.” They may be allowed one premium set every so often, and it’s left entirely up to them to figure out what that will be, and how to tie it in to the game as a whole. If that’s true (and I have no proof that it is), the real question is what will they do next? There’s no clear pattern to these sets, other than their relation to the IP as a whole. All three are wildly different from each other. They aren’t designed to be part of the game, but still interact with the Mario character (or rather, he interacts with them). I would not expect to see any basic game location that could just as easily be produced as a set for the game. Consoles and character builds would be retreading ground. A mosaic is a possibility, but wouldn’t require much in the way of complex set design (and would probably fall under a different department anyways). Maybe a giant Mario Kart go-kart? Finally getting to Bowser we begin on his torso. The Orange Technic Beams are part of the mechanism for shooting the fire-bolt. It's already an incredibly well designed model. The kind of build that makes you wonder how anyone designed it. Something about how the designer had to specifically point out that they use no character building parts in this model really rubbed me the wrong way, well LEGO won't be getting my money anytime soon. We cover over the base, and then proceed to decorate it: a red carpet affair in the middle while, to the sides, we have a decorated floor. this decoration takes advantage of the myriad of shapes that tiles are available in today: both angled and rounded. Apparently Ash n Flash did manage to get his hands on the update to make Mario compatible with this. One super cool thing is that if you stand on the Start Pipe, and then beat Bowser, the "level" will end right away! For basically every other Course Maker element in LEGO Mario you can keep going until you reach the End Pole. We've gotten a few new ways of Starting levels over the years (30 Second Pipe, Start Canon, Luigi's Mansion Starting Pad, Coin Pipe) but getting a new way to finish a level is super cool!So we’re just going to ignore the other 50% of the Mario line that’s well within a kid-set-budget? Are we trying to say that every set needs to be kid sized?" There’s a new fireball spring-loaded missile on the inside, which you can fire when you tilt his head upwards. While I have seen the cardboard satchel before, this is the first time that I have seen it with an image of an instruction book on it. It certainly clarifies what you might expect to find inside. As always, I am indebted to Ann, the Knowles in Chief, who has laid out all of the elements to help you to spot the things that I fail to describe to you.
