Easter Rabbits Display is a fantastic set for builders on a budget, or if you enjoy collecting LEGO’s annual seasonal themes, and is the front-runner for me so far. I really cannot wait to see what other animals we get this year! A variety of curved and cheese slopes have been used to give the lagomorphs an organic appearance, and they both look suitably winsome. Despite their different stances they share the same head and hind leg design. Both options are brightly coloured, with some really fun colour combinations, and you can also mix things up and use both flowers and easter eggs in the scene.

Details

The base is a vibrant combination of bright green, green and lime green. It's perhaps unnecessarily elaborate and extravagant, but it does look great as a result. The bunnies in this set are absolute spot-on winners. The base is also attractive and solid. All together, though, it’s a bit busy. There really isn’t space to fit both bunnies and all of the accessories on the base at the same time, so you can mix-and-match which eggs and flowers you like best, but then you’re left with the question of what to do with the others. They will stand up on their own, but fall over (and roll!) extremely easily. Some printed Easter Eggs would’ve been nice, but understand they need to keep prices accessible for these set It knows where it stands and doesn’t try to be anything more than that. And it works. The added customisation of the scene is also another fun bonus, and this really is a great standalone set that oozes Easter cheer.

Both rabbits are a delight to build and display, and I really appreciate the option to swap out the decorations, and customise it to your liking, which ultimately increases the replayability and utility of the set. And if you’re mad about this not being infinitesimally better for some reason, at least we didn’t get one of these again . Like the Valentine Lovebirds, 40523 Easter Rabbits is designed to be built as a group activity – there are 2 separate manuals, one for each rabbit, which makes this a really fun experience, if you like building with your spouse, partner, kids or friends. I liked the height difference, which gives it a sense of dynamism, and also the generous use of tiles, and curved slopes to give it a smooth, wavy look. It's perhaps not quite on a par with the parrots though, simply because that one is bursting with colour. Nevertheless, it's well-designed, displays well, full of useful parts, and priced very reasonably for the number of pieces: everything you could want from a LEGO set. The eggs are colorful and lovely. One of them is topped with a pink opalescent dome that was new in 2021 and has only been in five sets previously. My youngest aptly described it as “whoa, that’s a cosmos piece”. The flowers are simple, with “tooth” petals, and very short stems. The proportions look a little odd, but a longer stem would have been very fragile without extra parts for reinforcement, so the decision is understandable. So far the seasonal sets have been exceptional this year, and I can't wait to see what's in store for us at Halloween and Christmas.

If you have the money to throw at it, I’d say go for it. But let’s just be truthful, there isn’t hype behind this enough for it to be something spectacular, and LEGO won’t adapt this series of sets too far beyond what it is now. Other than hinged ears, there's no articulation, but that's enough to change their character from alert to inquisitive. Its array of colors and rare translucent dark pink dome piece makes it a decent enough set to be worth buying and splitting up for resale.A variety of eggs multicoloured and flowers are provided with which to decorate it. One of the eggs uses a 2x2 dome piece in transparent medium violet opal, a rare colour introduced in 2020. A pair of rabbits are an obvious fit for Easter, but the symbolism also works to welcome in Spring (in the Northern hemisphere) as well, and there’s a fun way to switch up the display.

Easter is still quite far away, but 40523 Easter Rabbits Display goes on sale on 1 February 2022, and will be available o LEGO.com, or from your local LEGO store! In previous sets, I have held to high praise, and this is no different. You can place the rabbits on the singular stud, which allows for a very small degree of customisation as you can alter their position or rotate them slightly to mix up the angles, but I found that this wasn’t very effective at holding them in place, and they often popped out of place at the slightest nudge. My 5 year old daughter helped put the set together for me, and didn’t need a lot of help. She really likes Easter (and Easter Eggs), so she was ecstatic to piece this set together.
