About this deal

The brightness of the moon allowed us to truly study the Aculon T02 8x21’s optical system. While views were beautifully pin sharp thanks to the multicoated optics, we did detect a touch of chromatic aberration (also known as color-fringing) along the lunar limb. While noticeable as a purple-blue edging, our views were unspoiled. Very closely related to the objective lens sizes is the size of the shaft of light exiting ocular lenses that then passes onto your eyes. Known as the exit pupil, it’s size on a Roof or Porro prism binocular is largely determined by dividing the lens diameter by the magnification. For customers who enjoy star gazing or distant wildlife including bird watching, the S Series deliver high-quality, bright and clear viewing. These are suitable for low-light conditions thanks to a larger than 40mm objective.

This relates to the size of the pupils in your eyes and how wide they are dilated depending on the available light and is in relation to the size of the shaft of light exiting the eyepieces. A larger objective lens captures more light and so the image seen is potentially brighter than on a smaller one. Hikers, outdoor enthusiasts, and even birders are being targeted by these lightweight ‘take anywhere’ green-bodied roof prism binoculars, which are under half the price of the other Kowa option here. Despite this, they don’t stint on features found in physically larger alternatives. Well I have used them a few times now and find them excellent for my use, they arrived within two days, so all in all I’m very pleasedOpticron Aspheric 3 10x25They may not be the smallest pair in this list, but their classic design is perfect for users with larger hands who still want a relatively compact model.★★★★ You wear glasses:The eye relief on these binos isn't the best, so if you wear glasses, there are better options. The long summer months and intermittent rain meant that we had to not only wait for the sun to set well into the evening but also wait for several nights for the wall-to-wall cloud to clear after our first introduction to the Aculon T02 8x21. Given the small objective lens, and therefore suspected to not be able to handle low-light conditions, our expectations were low for astronomical viewing through the optical system. Present for a ten year old who is delighted with them. I felt it was better to give adult binoculars rather than ones made for a child as they would last into adulthood What’s more, if you’re looking for a binocular that’s stylishly unique, then the Nikon Aculon T02 8x21 — in our opinion — wins hands down, as this model comes in a selection of colors: Red, blue and white. The Nikon Aculon T02 8x21 comes equipped with a carrying case and eyepiece covers. It’s worth noting though, that the case wasn’t supplied with the test unit that we received from Nikon.

In the same way, big lenses are able to capture and potentially transmit more light into the instrument. This increase in light ‘information’ can improve image brightness and quality. These Pentax binoculars can be taken apart to provide two 4x monoculars and also screw together to create a 16x spotting scope. Read more below If you're having a hard time deciding between the easier-to-hold 8x magnification and the more detailed 10x magnification for closer views, especially when observing the moon and planets, there's a middle ground — 9x magnification. It combines many advantages of both options. Great little product, lightweight and compact yet seem robust and sturdy. Good clarity, focus and range. Well priced and excellent delivery speed When separated into monoculars, two users can benefit from the additional light-gathering power over the human eye, making it easier to spot more stars and celestial objects. However, this is a rather expensive option for buying low-power instruments — you'd be better off buying two decent pairs of binoculars instead. Although they may not be a top recommendation, we've included these binoculars for their cleverness and novelty factor.

News & Reviews

Whether your passion is traveling, bird watching, hunting, star gazing, sailing or simply exploring your environment – our expert guides will help you choose the best tool to enjoy it. Hopefully, I have been able to demonstrate that even within the subset of compact binoculars, the combination of the lens size and magnification has a big effect on its performance and making the right choice for your particular needs is important. In this article I am going to explain about the two numbers often found printed on the body of a binocular and why understanding binocular numbers is important.

Thus it stands to reason that if you are generally going to be observing objects at longer ranges, a 10x or perhaps even a 12x magnification might be the right option. Although, having said that, there are still many other factors and consequences brought about by the higher power that you still need to take into consideration before making your final choice: Field of View The eyecup lens caps fitted snuggly, but could be removed with ease. (Image credit: Gemma Lavender) The main purpose of binoculars is to allow you to see a distance object more clearly by making them look larger as if you were seeing them from much closer. My “8x” binocular makes the object I am looking at appear eight times larger than it would if I look at it with just my eyes (unaided). So you have decided that you need a compact binocular, but which configuration (objective lens size and magnification combination) should you get?Stylish, small and lightweight, the Nikon Aculon T02 8x21 offers limited — yet pleasing — views of planets, the moon and star fields. (Image credit: Gemma Lavender) This is very important to be aware of because your eyes require enough light for you to be able to perceive a bright, high-quality image.
