The Trigger" is a short story written by Gillen, published in the 2017 Star Wars anthology From a Certain Point of View. [3] Set during the 1977 Star Wars film on the day that the Empire destroys the planet Alderaan with the Death Star, the story finds Aphra captured by Imperial troops and reacting to the news of Alderaan's destruction. [3] Slate noted: The series was nominated for Outstanding Comic Book at the 30th GLAAD Media Awards. [22] Alan Scherstuhl of Slate wrote of the series, "The stories, like Death Stars, tend to explode, but unpredictably so, with escalating twists, striking moral quandaries, and only occasionally anything like a truly happy ending." [3] He explains, "Besides the vigorous storytelling and startling twists, the Doctor Aphra comics ... fill in shades of gray that are otherwise missing from Star Wars ' moral spectrum." [3] Jesse Schedeen of IGN called Doctor Aphra "Marvel's riskiest Star Wars project to date", but noted that "the distance from the movies gives Doctor Aphra a greater sense of freedom in terms of tone, style and plot possibilities." [6] Schedeen described the series as "very much like a Bizarro Han Solo story with a dash of Indiana Jones thrown in", and noted that it "thrives on its dark sense of humor." [6] This collection begins with Aphra’s introduction in Darth Vader #3. After scouring the planet to find the Triple Zero Matrix, Aphra runs into Vader, who is searching for his own personal resources outside of the Empire. She succeeds in obtaining the Triple Zero chip, being able to revive it’s core memory into a C3PO model. This is the origin story of her two comrades. After Vader witnesses her intellect and savvy, he agrees to her proposition of setting him up with his own squadron of homicidal droids. The pair head to Geonosis, a soft spot for Vader (it’s where he and Padme shared their first kiss).

Throughout most of it he's a terrifying presence always lurking just behind Aphra but when they actually come together again he suddenly becomes indifferent and even tolerant towards her. Then when she unleashes her plot to get out from under his thumb I felt that the writer (Spurrier) did Vader an injustice in the interest of making Aphra seem cleverer. Zatu has an excellent range of games and for most of them the best prices too. Delivery is always fast and I have never received a game in bad condition. 10/10 would recommend. All in all, this omnibus reminds us that in times of war and oppression, we all have different roles that we fill. Whether some are a part of the problem, actively fighting against it or standing on the side lines, everyone has a role. Aphra’s role is a bit murky at best because she doesn’t become vulnerable with many of the characters within the story. Perhaps this is why so many people love her – she is the most relatable. During this very real life time of confusion and uprising, we have to ask ourselves – where do we fit in in the struggle for freedom? It can be hard to take on the world’s problems as an individual and I believe that is where Aphra gets it right. Does it save your life to be self-serving or is it worth the risk to sacrifice yours for the betterment of society?

Chelli Aphra is an archaeologist. You might think this means uncovering precious artifacts for the sake of preservation and knowledge but you’d be wrong. With an interest in droids, weapons, and Jedi artifacts she’s just looking for credits. When her talents attract the attention of Darth Vader it sets her life and that of two killer robots on a path that sees her kidnapping rebels, imprisoned in imperial jail, fighting for her life with a droid that wishes to kill her, and even going to the Emperor himself. To save her own skin Aphra is ready to betray anyone which always begs the question, what sort of crazy trouble will she be in next? A good choice for returning to the Star Wars comics for me, after a break of several years. I had some minor issues with the character and with the decline in artwork quality towards the end of this omnibus edition, but I cannot deny that I had a lot of fun along the way.
