The P950's main controls are all clustered on the upper-right of the top-plate. Despite its consumer-level positioning, Nikon provides an impressive amount of control customization. Other areas haven't been upgraded, though. Nikon hasn't done anything to improve autofocus speed or accuracy. We'd also like to see a touch screen and a current-generation USB-C interface.

It's able to make images faster if you drop the resolution, but it's a big drop to get to 60fps (2MP) or 120fps (0.3MP). There's a delay before you can make another image as photos write to the card, between five and ten seconds depending on how fast a card you use and what file format you're using. No. If I need to crop that much, I will either try to get closer, or just not get the shot.

The Nikon Coolpix P950 excels for its colossal zoom range and lens quality, but its image quality is disappointing in 2020. Only if you absolutely must have this much zoom reach is it worth considering, and even then the price is tough to justify.The lens closes down to f/5.6 by the 30x (700mm) zoom setting, and Imatest shows good quality here as well (2,300 lines). Zooming in just a little bit further, to the 33x setting (800mm), reduces it to f/6.3, and slightly drops resolution (2,200 lines). Although it might seem like the P950 represents a fairly gentle evolution of the existing P900 model, some of the upgrades are pretty significant.

Hello, I am an avid wildlife and bird, nature and landscape photographer. I just need to ask 3 questions about the Nikon Coolpix 950. While the P1000 goes to 3,000mm equiv and the P950 "only" goes to 2,000mm equiv, it appears the P950 has substantially superior VR to the P1000 and will likely outperform the P1000 in typical use. The key is low ISO and RAW-processing. And of course if you're not shooting at the longest end of this lens, what's the point? Shoot at 1,000mm+ or shoot a different camera. The whole 24mm (or even 300mm or 500mm) equiv end of this lens is a waste of time. The P950 can certainly take decent shots at shorter focal lengths where the max aperture is larger thus diffraction effects are less. Even if it had a theoretical perfect lens, it could never deliver sharp images at the extreme of its zoom due to diffraction.
