This one was distilled in November 1978 and left to age in an Oloroso sherry butt until February 2001, when it was bottled at cask strength with an outturn of 548 bottles. This Tamnavulin Sherry Cask Edition is a lovely, gentle and easy drinking whisky. It has some lovely characteristics coming from both the distillery spirit and those three types of ex-sherry cask. It is no 'sherry bomb' or 'sherry monster', but displays some deliciously subtle aromas and flavours.

The colour is a deep amber and the nose is immediately fruity and sweet. Distinct aromas of green apple and pear mingle with others of muscovado sugar, dark dried fruit (think of raisin and sultana especially) and warming spice (imagine cinnamon and gingerbread in particular. I prefer bourbon coming from USA but wanted to try this while traveling in Sweden. Took 1 glass to get familiar with the taste, but i found it to be delightful change from my heavier bourbon taste Milk chocolate, tannins with hints of fruit. Unfortunately he comes across a bit watery. Alcohol could also be better integrated. Nose: Hints of raisins but also copper coins, marzipan and a touch of crème de cassis. There’s whisper of rhubarb as well, with just a whiff of watery orange juice. Not particularly memorable but definitely 'nice'.
