Description

Josh's research focuses on business, entrepreneurship, skill acquisition, productivity, creativity, applied psychology, and practical wisdom. His unique, multidisciplinary approach to business mastery and rapid skill acquisition has helped millions of readers around the world learn essential concepts and skills on their own terms. Josh's TEDx talk on The First 20 Hours is one of the top 25 most-viewed TED talks published to date, with over 22 million views on YouTube. The author claims this book summarizes the knowledge gained from a typical MBA degree. If this is true, MBA is the most worthless degree I have known to date. But I am doubtful an actual MBA will be so much useless. The Personal MBA is designed to help learn the art of business on your own terms. Instead of mortgaging your life to go to business school, it's possible to dramatically increase your knowledge of business on your own time and with little cost – without setting foot inside a classroom. An MBA at a top business school is an enormous investment in time and cash. And if you don't want to work for a consulting firm or an investment bank, the chances are it simply isn't worth it.

As you pursue an MBA, you can learn a wide variety of business fundamentals, including economics, marketing, finance, strategy, organizational behavior, and accounting. Outside the core curriculum, you can typically customize your experience through concentrations, elective classes, and internships with actual companies. This can help you to develop some of the leadership skills necessary to run a business—and these skills transfer to many career paths. Plenty of follow up books for any reading list since Josh mentions books that expand on the concepts throughout. Audience Aggregation - Get the attention of a group of people with certain characteristics, then sell access in the form of advertising to another business looking to reach that audience.

B. C. Forbes, the founder of Forbes magazine, who wrote an essay in 1917 called “Keys to Success.”: I think it's okay if you're into business and going to delve further in each topic discussed in the book. The book is like a general overview of what a MBA is all about, like an Introductory course that you take at the university. Mr. Kaufman is a pathological liar. There are countless statements which are untrue or cannot be true. Early in the book, he accounts that he's read "thousands" of business books over a "5 year period." A minimum to reach "thousands" is any number over 2,000 ; therefore, he would have read 1.09 books per day, 365 days a year, minimum. Shame on the editors of Penguin Group Publishing for letting so many mistakes like this slide. The book has 11 sections (or chapters if you like): Value Creation, Marketing, Sales, Value Delivery, Finance, The Human Mind, Working with Yourself, Working with Others, Understanding Systems, Analyzing Systems and Improving Systems. Each section has 18 to 32 subsections.

If you choose to pursue an on-campus MBA, you’ll typically attend classes in person on a fixed schedule. These traditional MBA programs often attract candidates who want to take advantage of the facilities, extracurricular activities, and overall community of a university campus. Edit: Will graduate with my MBA from Texas Tech in December 2015 and this book just doesn't have enough substance for anyone to really think they could read it and know everything a business school could teach them.

Each small section is annoyingly ends with "please share this section" [on social media]. It's so frequent, the author's narcissism is quite frankly hard to tune out. A gold mine of useful ideas and helpful explanations. Every entrepreneur should own a copy.” JAMES CLEAR, bestselling author of Atomic Habits

I read The Personal MBA cover to cover when it was first released and it had a major impact on how I view business. It’s incredible how Josh was able to distill hundreds of books and hundreds of years of business knowledge into this succinct and elegant tome." ROB WALLING, co-founder of MicroConf and bestselling author of Start Small, Stay Small True leaders aren't made by business schools — they make themselves, seeking out the knowledge, skills, and experience they need to succeed. But be clear, this is no replacement for an MBA, not by a long shot. It doesn't teach the first thing about critical analysis, about structuring and communicating thought, or about financial analysis. It only grazes a mass of subjects, and a chapter on some important topics can be read in under ten minutes. Prior to developing the Personal MBA full-time, Josh worked as an Assistant Brand Manager in Procter & Gamble's Home Care division, where he was responsible for projects that encompassed P&G's entire value chain, from creating new products to working with large customers like Wal-Mart, Target, Costco, and Kroger. Before leaving P&G, Josh spearheaded the development of P&G's global online marketing measurement strategy. Environment matters. Rigging up. Have fun, don't die. Windward and leeward. At the mercy of mother nature. Practice parts in isolation. For everything, there is a season.Do I believe, after having read this book cover to cover, that I have earned the equivalent of a MBA from a state college or university or amassed the same knowledge as one who has graduated with a MBA? No.

In this inspiring little book, Josh argues that you can get good enough at anything to enjoy yourself in just twenty hours. In other words, all that's starting between you and playing the ukulele is your TV time for the next two weeks. If Josh, a busy father and entrepreneur, can make the time, then the rest of us can too.” LAURA VANDERKAM, author of 168 Hours and What The Most Successful People Do Before Breakfast No matter which type of degree you decide to pursue, you might have the option to complete your coursework on a college campus, online, or a hybrid of the two. Each method comes with its own set of benefits. This decision is all about how an MBA program best fits into your lifestyle. Online MBAs Josh Kaufman is an independent business teacher, education activist, and author of The Personal MBA: Master the Art of Business. The book is quite ambitious. The author says if you want to save money on that expensive MBA education and if you are not going for the connections to get you your dream office job, that he will tell you everything you need to know about an MBA in his book. The 12 Forms of Products and services are only two of the twelve ways you can create value for your customers.
