In Trolls, when Cooper wasn't harmonizing his lyrics with other Trolls, he added a rap beat to them. For example, in Can't Stop the Feeling!, during the line "Nowhere to hide when I'm gettin' you close", he sings "Can't stop, won't stop". In the lines "When we move, well, you already know", he says "Let’s go, let’s work". At its highest level, the ability can give the Barbarian King a significant boost, including a 34-point increase in speed, a 1050-point increase in damage, and a hitpoint recovery of 5000.

Initially, the Barbarian King used to appear similar to a giant Barbarian, with a steel crown, steel gauntlet, and steel shoulder guard. He used a blunt sword with a stone hilt. Despite being among the four least intelligent Trolls Cooper was able to find Poppy in her hiding spot in the Trolls: TrollsTopia episode " Hide & Go Hug", while the other three Trolls ( DJ Suki, Synth and Demo) not only didn't find the hiding spot she was in, but completely forgot that Poppy was playing a game by the end of the episode.
The distracted Inferno Towers will focus their attention on the swarm of Barbarians, giving the Barbarian King an opportunity to deal significant damage to the towers and other high-value defenses. In Trolls Scrapbook Stories, it was shown that Barb had grown to regret her actions in Trolls World Tour, and was taking steps to make up for it. In Trolls: Holiday in Harmony, she is shown singing the line "I've done a lot of foolish things, That I really didn't mean" during the song Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours). It is shown she is now on good terms with everyone else and is even excited to partake in Poppy's gift swap. In Trolls World Tour: The Junior Novelization, it was mentioned that she was expected to live up to expectations of her father. The Mighty Yak has the ability to break through walls, saving valuable time for the Barbarian King to reach his intended targets. Enable "Automatically use Hero Abilities on KO" in the settings, as there is no real downside to doing so; his hero ability enhances his survivability and boosts his damage output.

Barb's initial dislike of Pop music is ironic since her voice actress Rachel Bloom produced Pop songs herself. While the typical Funk Troll has above-average intelligence, Cooper is an exception to the Tribe. While part of it could be put down to being raised by a different Tribe, it's still notable as an exception to the Funk Trolls overall, and Cooper is goofier than the rest of his kind. He's often oblivious of what's going on, and when he's aware of what's happening jumps to the most absurd conclusions. An example of this is in Trolls, when Chef statement's "I am that 'he'" led Cooper to think that Chef was a "dude", misunderstanding her metaphoric phrasing.
