About this deal

West-Running Brook (1928) , Frost’s fifth book of poems, is divided into six sections, one of which is taken up entirely by the title poem. This poem refers to a brook which perversely flows west instead of east to the Atlantic like all other brooks. A comparison is set up between the brook and the poem’s speaker who trusts himself to go by “contraries”; further rebellious elements exemplified by the brook give expression to an eccentric individualism, Frost’s stoic theme of resistance and self-realization. Reviewing the collection in the New York Herald Tribune, Babette Deutsch wrote: “The courage that is bred by a dark sense of Fate, the tenderness that broods over mankind in all its blindness and absurdity, the vision that comes to rest as fully on kitchen smoke and lapsing snow as on mountains and stars—these are his, and in his seemingly casual poetry, he quietly makes them ours.” Annie Marsh ( Cherie Lunghi, 2008) is a hardworking detective from Manchester who is not keen on Frost's methods of cutting corners and bending the rules to get a result. Once, before she and Frost were posted at Denton, she reported him for endangering the life of a young PC and being unprofessional – something he took to heart and still remembers to this day.

I was so intrigued by the place, I was instantly hooked and wanted a glimpse inside even more than Tilly.

Geistergeschichten für das Alter haben ihren ganz eigenen Charme finde ich, und da diese Geschichte auch noch im 19. Jahrhundert in England spielt, hat sie mich besonders gereizt. Hollis, Matthew (2011-07-29). "Edward Thomas, Robert Frost and the road to war". The Guardian. London . Retrieved 8 August 2011.DCI Jim Allen (Neil Phillips, 1992–1994), the first DCI to feature in the series. He and Frost get on well, sharing jokes about Mullett and concern for each other's emotions on harrowing cases. They only argue when Frost is taken off a serial rape case. He is mentioned in the second episode of the third series as "being away", but is never seen again. Tilly’s adventures at Frost Hollow Hall are very cleverly plotted, with plenty of twists and turns, with some wonderfully dramatic moments, and a lovely selection of those familiar elements that you so often find in ghost stories. Meanwhile Tilly’s mother has problems, and of course her daughter wants to support her; and Tilly’s relationship with Will – who delivers meat to the hall – moves along nicely. All of the elements work together very well. The people she meets along the way and the horrific sights she endures fight against the hope she carries within her. Nothing can diminish her love for her family, her pet and even the strangers she meets.

Frostquake: The frozen winter of 1962 and how Britain emerged Frostquake: The frozen winter of 1962 and how Britain emerged

The Prophets Really Prophesy as Mystics, the Commentators Merely by Statistics, Spiral Press, 1962.When a group of travellers arrive, Ash discovers more about his absent parents. Even more mysteriously, he may have a magical power: song weaving. But is his power good, or terribly dangerous? Will his parents ever return, and will his grumpy Yeti guardian Tobu ever cheer up? All Ash can really say for sure is that once the crew of the Frostheart whisk Ash away for a thrilling adventure, his life will change forever. Frost Hollow Hall is more than a ghost story; it’s a story that lives and breathes, and paint wonderful pictures, and it’s a story about love, family, loss, regret, and learning to let go, told beautifully, with both subtlety and charm.
