He mainly works in the field of social documentary, portraying humanity during some of its most devastating stages. In fact, he’s among the most prominent documentary photographers of all time. She places herself in her own work and uses a range of disguises and personas. They were disturbing, distasteful, and sometimes amusing. And she’s not just a photographer. She’s also a model, hairdresser, stylist, and makeup artist. 2. Robert Frank Richard Avedon was a fashion and portrait photographer from the US. His fashion and portrait photographs have helped define America’s image—the style, beauty, and culture—for the last half-century.

Imogen Cunningham was a famous photographer from the US. She is known for her botanical photography, industrial landscapes, and nude art. Cunningham was also a member of the California-based Group f/64. This is when he became most famous. The Guggenheim Fellowship allowed him to travel the country. And that resulted in his most famous work— The Americans (pictured below). Man Ray was an American visual artist. He spent most of his career in France. Ray contributed to the Dada and Surrealist movements. And he considered himself a painter. Paul Strand was an American photographer. He helped establish photography as an art form in the 20th century. His diverse work spanned six decades. Mario Eduardo Testino Silvais a fashion and portrait photographer from Peru. Leibovitz was the last professional photographer who took a picture of John Lennon and Yoko Ono before Lennon was murdered on December 8 th, 1980. No wonder, he’s one of the United States’ famous photographers. He is also regarded as one of the most famous photographers 21st century. Why do we do it? I think we all ask ourselves this question, especially as the industry becomes ever more volatile, with colleagues losing their jobs, and even their lives, more often than many of us ever expected when we went into this profession. Not to mention the steeply declining pay for those of us who manage to eke out a living doing editorial work… But for me, it comes down to the people in my photographs. Bannos does an exceptional job of not only making Vivian Maier a full human being as opposed to a caricature of the odd single asexual nanny who likes to take pictures, but puts her in the historical context of modern photography from the 1940s through the 1990s. It is a forensic biography - using the meticulous notes she left on negative sleeves as well as other saved ephemera to show how well travelled she was, the long term themes in her work and most importantly that photography was not a hobby for Vivian Maier but her passion and her art. Anne Geddes is an Australian-born photographer. But she currently lives and works in New York. She taught herself photography and became a professional when she was 30 years old. Her newborn baby pictures made her a world-famous photographer.

Cindy Sherman is an American conceptual artist. She is one of the most influential artists in the modern age of photography. This makes sense… because she has two images on the list of “The Top 10 Most Expensive Photographs in the World.” That same rush is what propels my belief in picture editing. In a time when our global awareness is under siege by an increasingly insular perspective, the responsibility of empowering photographers whose mission is to not just capture but to investigate, to enlighten, to excite, is one of the great privileges of our time. Cunningham’s early work consisted of soft focus and blurred imagery. These gave mystery to her photographed figures. Then she began experimenting with sharper, crisper images. And Cunningham began to create a style known as sharp-focus photography. 5. Frans Lanting He has received numerous awards including “Honorary Master of Arts”, and his work has been displayed in Europe, Australia and Asia. Known For: Considered one of the best portrait photographers in the United States, known for her use of bold colors and dramatic posesToday there are more photographers producing more photographs and populating more platforms than have existed at any other point in our history. With that ubiquity has come an evolution in our audiences, which are more sophisticated and demanding than ever. What a thrilling time then to be tasked with looking through the mainstream releases in the hope of unearthing something unique, something beautiful, something rare. I arrived in Iraq in November 2016, looking for stories having nothing to do with Mosul, yet I felt with so many other journalists around, I needed to find meaning elsewhere. I’m a registered nurse, so I sought out a small group of foreign medics working with the Iraqi military medics to treat people wounded during the battle. Living with this tight knit group, I began photographing our surroundings, the Iraqi medics whose job was so morbid, but who were so jovial in our downtime. Yet just as a photograph can give the impression of truth without revealing an image's complete context, this fragmentary emergence of Maier's biography and work has led to an incomplete, incorrect and in some cases unfair perception of the woman herself and the merits of her output. I’m a big fan of movies and I love 50’s/60’s films – I love Marilyn Monroe and Sofia Loren, and Brigitte Bardot, for me, is the most beautiful woman ever.

Salgado is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. He documents the powerless and the poor. He also shoots nature photography and tries to find beauty in everything. Salgado has received many awards and honors: I have spent my entire professional life creating, editing, critiquing or teaching photography and working with photographers. It has been the way that I have experienced much of the world. In a deeply personal way I feel an image is a poem about time, about “staying the moment.” Photography can defeat time. Images can keep the memory of a loved one alive, hold a moment in history for future generations, be a witness to tragedy or joy. They can also change behavior, stimulate understanding and create a sense of urgency that will move people to action. Photography is the universal language that speaks to the heart. In her groundbreaking biography "Vivian Maier: A Photographer's Life and Afterlife," Pamela Bannos offers an exhaustively researched and engrossingly written examination of the life and work of the enormously talented and intensely private American photographer whose images of life in the 20th century have captured countless imaginations in the 21st. Over the years he faced a couple of extremely dangerous situations which brought him close to losing his life. He was a survivor in an airplane crash in Yugoslavia and he nearly drowned in India. Moreover, Maier was not so friendless as Maloof and others have portrayed her. In one of the book's many charming photographic plates, Bannos includes an image of Maier at Staten Island's South Beach in the summer of 1952. There, she stands smiling on the sand next to her friend, an older woman named Emilie Haugmard, both of them in bathing suits, illustrating Bannos' observation that Maier "gravitated toward women her grandmother's age as photo subjects and friends." McCurry has completed several assignments for National Geographic. And he has been a member of Magnum since 1986. Brassaï was a Hungarian-French photographer who gained international fame in the 20th century. He was among the Hungarian artists who flourished in Paris between the World Wars.
