About this deal

las compre para una placa Rog Strix B660g Gaming wifi, en la que ya tenia otros dos módulos iguales. Knowing this, we’re sure you’ll have a few questions before deciding whether or not this is the time to take the leap into unknown memory waters.

By that time, I’d already self-published some guidelines on hardcore PC stuff: pin-modifying processors to defeat compatibility checks and overclock non-overclockable systems. For performance, the two most important factors are the clock frequency (MHz, the higher, the faster) and the latency (CL the lower, the faster). After some Benchmarking I can say DDR4 3200 and DDR5 4800 are about the same speed after latency is taken into account, the increase performance is marginal at best. Some users will simply want to jump on the Alder Lake bandwagon ASAP; the performance of Intel’s new CPU really is impressive for content creators and PC gamers. You'd think that JEDEC ( the industry group that standardizes DRAM) would have at least waited for its memory makers to get DDR5-4800 down to CAS 36 just to stay on track with its previous efforts. Because all DDR memory technology, including DDR5, is “double data rate,” transfers occur on both the rise and fall of the clock edge. For most of us considering a new Intel-based desktop-PC build today, the decision will be whether to build a new system now, using some DDR4 modules already in hand, or to wait for DDR5 pricing to normalize.

As for the other tests: Nothing meaningful in Cinebench R23, while DDR5 wins at the HandBrake bench.

In measuring memory speed, the two parameters we’re dealing with are bandwidth and latency, and early DDR5, so far, isn’t exactly blessed in the latency department. Check with your favorite system vendor to take advantage of this game-changing technology in your data center.

While Crucial’s DDR5 operates with 40-39-39-77 latency values, Mushkin’s timings look better as frequencies decrease from DDR4-4400 (19-26-26-46) to DDR4-4000 (18-22-22-42) and DDR4-3600 (16-19-19-39) in its three Redline kits. A given motherboard supports DDR5 or DDR4, not a choice of one or the other, or the ability to use both kinds of modules side by side.

There is a significant installed base and need for continued support of DDR4 for many years to come. DDR5 made its debut on consumer hardware with Intel’s Alder Lake 12th generation CPUs being the first to support DDR5.

Scalpers have even started to get in on the DDR5 game, like they have for some time with graphics cards and other in-demand electronics. New Alder Lake mobile and low-power platforms are expected to launch soon after the desktop platform, but they weren't here yet at this writing. The fact that the power difference narrows when the memory is loaded indicates that much of that 8-watt difference between DDR5-4800 and DDR4-3200 lies within the board’s features.DDR5 is the next generation of Random Access Memory and replaces DDR4 which has been the standard for the last 7 years. As CPU core counts increase to deal with these immense needs, memory technology has had to scale up as well. We still have plenty of questions ourselves, which we're working out in our first few weeks on this new platform. With a data rate (speed) range of 4800 to 8800MT/s, DDR5 delivers higher-performance memory and is geared to increase reliability, availability and serviceability (RAS).
