About this deal

The band members played their first concerts in Australia in July and spent the whole of August on the European festivals circuit. Roughly every half-decade since 2008’s Intimacy knocked the post-punk revivalists off their axis, Bloc Party have produced an album that feels like a direct reaction to the one that preceded it.

The band got their break after Okereke went to a Franz Ferdinand concert in 2003, and gave a copy of "She's Hearing Voices" to both lead singer Alex Kapranos and BBC Radio 1 DJ Steve Lamacq.

Okereke also cites Suede as a major influence; he says Dog Man Star was the first record he fell in love with. Long before being genreless was the genre du jour, Bloc Party embodied the new frontier of online culture where torrenting and streaming made delineations between sounds feel almost arbitrary. Drowned in Sound 's Gen Williams described the album as "mature and expansive" and wrote that "the autonomy, creativity and sheer, elastic beauty that spans this debut more than justifies the rapidly accelerating hype".

The band has released six albums: "Silent Alarm" (2005), "A Weekend in the City" (2007), "Intimacy" (2008), "Four" (2012) , "Hymns" (2016) and "Alpha Games" (2022). It was also nominated as 'Album of the Year' at three different ceremonies: the New Pantheon Music Award ( Shortlist Music Prize), [148] the 2006 NME Awards, [143] and the 2006 PLUG Awards, where "Helicopter" was also up for 'Best Music Video'. The album was recorded with Alex Newport, who had previously worked with At The Drive In and The Mars Volta, in New York City.Silent Alarm was re-released in the UK on 17 October 2005 with "Little Thoughts" and "Two More Years" as bonus tracks. The band debuted new material during their 2013 North American tour, including "Children of the Future" at Rams Head Live!

The first time I heard this incredible album open with Every Time is the Last Time, I thought I’d put on the wrong record, now I can’t live without it rolling into Like Eating Glass. The panning vocals are a signature 2000s indie rock thing at this point, but something about the way its done here, makes it so much more special, especially when the back and forth voices converge .Self-recorded in a small, hired space in Acton, London, the song was followed by the May 2004 double A-side single, " Banquet/Staying Fat", produced by Paul Epworth. Not a great pressing, sounds pretty flat, and it’s noisy throughout, certainly between tracks… and that’s after putting it through the Degritter 3 times… it’ll do until I find an original pressing!

Not being able to sleep (a clinical sign of depression, or maybe it’s just plain old heartbreak) appears elsewhere on this record; “I can’t eat, I can’t sleep/I can’t sleep, I can’t dream”, Kele sings on‘Like Eating Glass’. They never shy away from showing their truest feelings, even if those are of vulnerability or weakness. The brilliant guitar and bass work which could boast both crunching rock riffage and tender ambient melody. They reunited in September 2011, and shortly thereafter released their fourth album, Four, which entered the UK Albums Chart at number three. According to Lissack, the basic idea was to emulate the "optimum audio representation" of songs heard in a club environment by adding guitar lines on top of boosted drum and bass tracks. The album also reached number 2 on the Australian and Belgian charts, [30] [31] and debuted at number 12 in the Billboard 200, with 48,000 copies sold. On 21 June 2023, Bloc Party announced a new EP titled The High Life EP, which was released a month later on 21 July. In August 2008, Bloc Party released their third studio record, Intimacy which entered the UK Albums Chart at number eight and number eighteen on the Billboard 200. During this period of hiatus Lissack revived his project Pin Me Down [64] and joined the live line-up of Irish rock-band Ash as guitarist and synthesiser player on their touring for the A–Z Series. Tulips" ( Minotaur Shock Remix)– 5:19– hidden track begins at 5:21 of the last song on the UK and US editions and at 5:28 of the last song on the Japanese edition.
