The Henry Quick is everything the UK loves about the traditional cylinder model, transformed into a cordless design which comes in Henry red, Hetty pink, or graphite. the Henry Quick is heavier than the Dyson V15 but lighter than the new Vax Blade 5 so it’s about average weight for a stick vac. The Henry is not the heaviest we tested, but the weight distribution means it is quite taxing on your wrist, especially in handheld mode. Since I have a houseful of pets I tried the Henry Quick on hard floor, carpet and several rugs and it swept everything I could see remarkably well. I’d hazard a guess that it would take several single-room clean ups or one entire house-worth of vacuuming before the bag is full.

With a tiny bin and low suction power, the specification doesn’t look that great, but by introducing an incredible new type of motorised floor head, Dyson has created a cordless vacuum cleaner that’s perfect for small flats with hard floor throughout. Still, it’s certainly versatile, and it glided well as a mop, leaving our floors sparkling and only lightly damp.Dog hairs are a huge issue for us; they seem to attach to soft furnishings, especially velvet upholstery, like glue. The brush head itself is 24cm in length and the single roller is 21cm so it’s not the widest brush bar I’ve ever seen and that invariably mean’t I had to perform a few more passes up and down the floor. When you’ve finished cleaning, simply hook the vacuum onto this free-standing dock, and a secondary vacuum empties the collection bin into a larger 2l bag.

You’ll also have to use it on eco mode to vacuum long pile carpet, as its high power can make it hard to manoeuvre. Each standard purchase of the vacuum comes with 26 Henry pods which are made of up to 65 percent recycled material and carbon offset, so you can go through them relatively guilt-free. The official sound rating for the Henry Quick is 77dB, yet we measured the cleaner at 66dB on the higher setting and 58dB on the low setting.The Henry Quick has also been one of the first cordless vacuum cleaners we’ve tested that can handle larger debris well. The other thing I’m not happy about is the overly firm fit of the brush roller into the extension tube. That’s the first of two things I don’t like about it because it means spending 10 seconds resting it against a piece of furniture or the wall while I juggle with loose rugs, and 10 seconds of extra vacuuming for me means 10 fewer seconds spent lounging on the sofa with a pizza.

Laura also tested the Henry Quick at her sister-in-law’s house, home to cats Terry, Dobby and the beautiful long-haired Cosmo. In its favour, the AEG 8000 is extremely light (not much more than half the weight of the Shark) and extremely well-balanced, with simple buttons making it very easy to use. The Henry Quick is Numatic’s first foray into the hotly contested cordless vacuum arena, and the pressure to bring something new and innovative to this overcrowded market has definitely been on.One battery lasts 60 minutes meaning I could comfortably vacuum my entire flat in one go, though if you have a bigger house you might consider investing in the double battery version. Its angle and the top-heavy design means the motor unit rubs on the back of your hand, leaving a red mark. One benefit of these is that you needn’t touch the dust and dirt to remove it from the canister, while you may need to do this with a bagless model as some dirt may spill or become trapped. Slit to cut hair: Long strands of hair tend to wrap around the floorhead brush and need to be cut free. This gives it enough capacity to empty the Bespoke Jet at least four times before you need to replace the bag.
