There is no doubt that is beautiful with her use of mixed media to capture a host of vivid and charming animals - the best of which is Leaf itself - a lone Polar Bear who has floated to this strange land on a shard of ice. Instead of placing footnotes at the bottom of pages within the text, or at the end of chapters, they can all be listed here.

This story is well-told and stunning illustrated but the text on the last page is a disappointment with its promise of a happily ever after ending that just doesn't make sense.Dieckmann's story is engaging, and I was rooting for the animals to get together (however unnatural this scenario might be, in the real world) and come up with a solution. The endpapers are the leaves at the very beginning of the book, before the half-title page, and at the very end. Leaves- It is bear's first fall and he is a bit confused when he sees the leaves falling from the trees. But as the crows argue for compassion, Leaf does something entirely unexpected that just may encourage the animals to consider changing their point of view.

This is a great activity to do while you’re walking around your neighborhood, especially if you can find a place with lots of different types of trees.There are so many learning possibilities to do with leaves including reading lots of fall preschool books. This book, from the excellent Let’s Read And Find Out series, goes into some pretty detailed science about leaves. They argue about different ways to get him to leave the forest, but they can not come to a consensus.
