About this deal

But that’s also a good thing because the author made the characters feel extremely real and the story was plotted well. There was a plentiful of varied emotions that I felt and I commended Nicole and others for the way they were able to speak about their experiences and their struggles as well as the people campaigning for change to laws. So wrong because once Xander was introduced, the romance angle got really interesting and really fascinating. Because she has personalised the experience – in chilling, abhorrent, disgusting, frightening detail – and then connected that to the experiences of others, the result is a horrifying account of the toll a stalker can inflict.

I didn’t really care much for Logan’s character development, he felt very flat to me whereas Dee was more well-developed and insightful. Nicole tells the story of her own terrifying stalker and then sends the message home with statistics and stories of other stalkings that you will surely be unaware of.But the sins of her father can become an obsession, and, as she’s learned time and again, her past is never more than a nightmare away. Fixation was at the heart of my debut novel, The Possessions, from its very beginning, a constant element that stayed steady even as I worked and reworked everything else. I didn't enjoy her portrayal of the other characters, especially the males, which sounded exactly like the females and exactly like each other. Here's our pick of the best books about obsession, from Elizabeth Macneal's The Doll Factory to Emily Brontë's classic tale of destructive romance, Wuthering Heights.

Hearing Nicole talking about her experience was entirely enthralling, and it was an utter pleasure to meet her in person and get my book signed. Naomi wants to embrace the solitude, but the residents of Sunrise Cove keep forcing her to open up―especially the determined Xander Keaton. When Logan blackmailed her using one of her secrets to be with him, Delilah had to find ways to get rid of him .

Naomi was about to turn 12 years old when she discovered the true nature her father and the extent of his crimes. That is not to say that the book wasn't interesting prior to Xander's appearance because it was but there's nothing more exciting than reading about two people falling in love despite the eff up situation they're in. If they didn't tell anyone (and Nicole tells us stalking is a very underreported crime) then how would we know? The multiple behaviours that fit the stalking profile include continuous contact, approaching family and friends, public defamation and the spreading of lies.

While I do agree with other reviewers that the romance and suspense had a pretty good balance, I didn't feel like the romance was concluded like I needed it to be. The book doesn’t really come to grips with the meaning of obsession but it is a compelling story of being on the receiving end of relentless stalking. Whether by a stranger, acquaintance or former partner, stalking can have a devastating effect on a victim-survivor’s mental, social and financial wellbeing. the unfortunate reason for only four stars is because I saw so much potential in an epilogue that could’ve made this book a duology maybe. Needless to say, Nora Roberts is a master storyteller, with the plots that grab you from the first to the last page and the characters that you are interested to learn more about. With all of his delusions and obsessions towards Sophie and Dee, you can see how sick Logan is as he was written in such a way to convince us that he is the deranged one. As the novel progresses, it is difficult to say whether Faraday is engaging in social climbing or out for a darker revenge. The present being Naomi having just bought a huge house in the middle of Nowhere, America despite not wanting roots and all the responsibilities that come along with it. Why should MY personal life – my interests, my job, my social media contacts, my daily activities – be changed; isn’t it right that the perpetrator must suffer consequences, rather than me altering my life? Imagine the gaslighting, the lies, the fear that you can't even post a picture of your cat without your troll pouncing on it and weaponising it against you.
