About this deal

They listen to nine recordings for each pair of headphones, which cover a wide range of music and radio genres, giving a rating per recording and an overall verdict (not an average). Although a well-established player in the audio market, Sennheiser has a fight on its hands with the surge in popularity of the Beats brand. Unsurprisingly this also makes for a fairly flat soundstage with limited dynamic range – other than those massive bass hits kicking in. The CX 300 rocked out with a live version of the Rolling Stones's "Start Me Up," and the band's power and grit were all there; the headphones definitely played loud enough when paired with our iPod.

Well the cx-300-II at this stage has deeper bass, more sparkly highs, the akg have a bigger and deeper soundstage and fuller mids probably a little more forward too and warmer sound (slightly rolled off top end). The cable itself is slightly flattened to reduce tangles, which it seems to do quite well, and although it’s far from kink-free out of the box, it does hang reasonably straight. And even if you have weirdly shaped ears, the various sized ear tips included in the package should give you the fit you’re looking for.

The sealed nature of them means you sometimes want to let your ear breathe every now and again, but otherwise they’re just a joy to wear. E.M when I demonstrate headphones so I’m going to stick them on and see how the CX300S match up against the competition. Originally released in late 2008, Sennheiser's CX 300 II Precision earphones are some of the oldest models on the market from the CX Line, but continue to deliver in almost every aspect.

This is done in two ways: firstly, we ask our five member expert listening panel to note how much sound they can hear while the headphones are playing next to them. We even found we could sleep with them in, with them not pressing on our ears when resting on a pillow. So, after reading your opinions, the new cx-300 II don't seem to be a big improvement in sound if compared to the older ones, as I suspected.

At the same time, the CX 300S avoids getting too bright, and you’ll experience minimal sharpness even when listening to instruments in the highest registers. The crispness of each note is sometimes lost in Rachmaninov’s Prélude, as it is with some of the synthesised noises and samples that make up Atoms For Peace’s complex percussion.

The headphones capture the dynamics well and you can feel Weissenberg becoming alternately aggressive and withdrawn as he moves through the piece. As is so often the case with headphones that have a forced bass-heaviness, the problem is often that the bass can kick in too suddenly. We settled on the largest ones, but the fit was never as secure as we've achieved with other in-ear phones, and a slight tug on the CX 300's cables would dislodge the earpiece from the ear. We’ve got a muscular, rich bass that gives ample impact to pop songs and tons of warmth to rock tracks. Denon PerL earbuds redefine personalised sound We all hear differently, so we shouldn’t all listen the same.Which is only partly true as when you pick them up, there’s definitely more than meets the eye here.
