For Susie this woman is a possible role model, someone to emulate as much as she is someone to nurture. They mind their own business and don’t put too much of themselves into the world—their own vibes or ideas or whatever.

Through her dedication and YouTube videos, she amasses a small cult following who follows her lead and rejects society--perhaps, in a way, the only way a woman can be truly safe in this world? Then, there’s everyone else: students, bartenders, night-shifters, drifters, chronic insomniacs, and people like me who keep their own time. Didn't have the speculative slant that I was wishing for but a well written and compelling read nevertheless!but we never learn to whom these first-person narrations are addressed or the actual event that has necessitated them as there is no clear interlocutor - they are internal monologues suggesting possible others. Her journey is narrated from the perspectives of three different people in her life, never her own, so we, the reader, are as intrigued as they are by her singular drive to transform. Although some ask about Nicola's friends and family and wonder where the children are, many are moved by her presence, her strength, her stillness – her inner power.

I still feel that way about her sometimes, even though I know a lot of other people are watching her too.Chrysalis is a compelling and at times unsettling novel tracking the metamorphosis of a young woman in the wake of the dissolution of an abusive relationship.

Chrysalis by Anna Metcalfe is a debut novel about an unnamed woman who becomes a viral internet sensation, told by three people who are/have been close to her.It doesn’t have a particular thesis on online selfhood, though – it’s all in the telling, which is gripping and subtle. This provocative, fiercely imaginative debut follows a woman trying to slip the shackles of society by controlling her body and mind in extreme ways , by one of Granta ’s Best of Young British Novelists. All three of the perspectives were intriguing, I love when incongruencies are casually revealed via a co-narrator.
