Description

This was written in diary form, in short, snappy chapters or often a few entries per page, which made for a really quick and enjoyable read.

The hospital screws who initially examined him had decided that he needed to go out as he was bleeding and in serious pain. Endless budget cuts in the number of staff, dog units, mental health cuts is all awful and some of this skimping leads to extremely dangerous situations. I have met a lot of officers like him and for the most part they are just sad that they can't get away with some of the actions that would have been applauded previously. This isn’t a dig at prison officers, they work in a dangerous job, but that’s exactly why that isn’t policy. I didn't like his tone when writing about younger officers, who he often described as 'snowflakes' etc. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. All in all, if you have an interest in the running of prisons and want a first hand account then this is the book for you! Even though the purchase didn’t go quite as planned the communication was great and dealt with in a very professional manner.

It's got bottoms, budgies, a great phrase "turned religious" and the very liberal use of the word 'fucking' followed by 'shitting' (as in fear) and shit (as in poo). Taken from David's diaries, this brutally honest, horrifying and hilarious book, will shock the reader and entertain in equal measures. Definitely worth a read though, and it certainly gives an insight into how things are done, and the kind of horrors that prison officers face! It’s for the reader to decide if that’s for the better or worse, however this author also a serving officer is very outdated for today’s standards.Inside Parkhurst - Stories Of A Prison Officer by David Berridge is a warts and all look at life working inside one of Britain's most dangerous prisons. I often think Joe Public should read them, it gives a bit more appreciation for the job these people do.
