You know, when I write about people, I have no delusion that they are my friends and that I have to make them happy. And so even though I’ve sort of known Emily over the years, the role has always been that of, like, journalist and subject. I knew that she was not the kind of person who would probably love anything written about her, because I just don’t think that’s in her nature, and it is, frankly, a weird thing — to be written about. Camille Kroely: I believe we will move from consumer journeys that are already off- and online, to off-chain and on-chain on the metaverse. We can see that the metaverse and Web3 are already impacting creative codes of real life. If you take, for example, the way people do their makeup—they can already get inspiration from the metaverse and 3D creators. Moss was disruptive to the beauty system, but she was still well within the industry’s comfort zone of defining beauty as a white, European conceit. So too were the youthquake models of the 1960s such as Twiggy, who had the gangly, curveless physique of a 12-year-old boy. The 1970s brought Lauren Hutton, who stirred scandal simply because she had a gap between her teeth. Jealousy isn’t inherently bad. Often, it signals the things you wish you had, like a graduate degree or promotion. Notice these feelings of envy and consider whether you’d like to add these accomplishments to your list of “to-do” objectives. You might go through the same four steps offered in the previous section to determine who you envy and why.

The new beauty isn’t defined by hairstyles or body shape, by age or skin color. Beauty is becoming less a matter of aesthetics and more about self-awareness, personal swagger, and individuality. It’s about chiseled arms and false eyelashes and a lineless forehead. But it’s also defined by rounded bellies, shimmering silver hair, and mundane imperfections. Beauty is a millennial strutting around town in leggings, a crop top, and her belly protruding over her waistband. It is a young man swishing down a runway in over-the-knee boots and thigh-grazing shorts. But on a powerfully emotional level, being perceived as attractive means being welcomed into the cultural conversation. You are part of the audience for advertising and marketing. You are desired. You are seen and accepted. When questions arise about someone’s looks, that’s just another way of asking: How acceptable is she? How relevant is she? Does she matter?Today suggesting that a person is not gorgeous is to risk social shunning or at least a social media lashing. What kind of monster declares another human being unattractive? To do so is to virtually dismiss that person as worthless. It’s better to lie. Of course you’re beautiful, sweetheart; of course you are.

We are also changing from social following to new, empowered communities, and from digital transformation to data transformation, as AI is becoming more prevalent and is almost in everyday use. An edited version of the conversation follows. How critical is digital in driving innovation in the beauty sector? But improved plastic surgery, more personalized and effective nutrition, the flowering of the fitness industry, and the rise of selfie filters on smartphones, along with Botox, fillers, and the invention of Spanx, have all combined to help us look better—and get a little bit closer to looking exceptional. Therapists, bloggers, influencers, stylists, and well-meaning friends have raised their voices in a chorus of body-positivity mantras: You go, girl! You slay! Yasss, queen! They are not charged with speaking harsh truths and helping us see ourselves vividly and become better versions of ourselves. Their role is constant uplift, to tell us that we are perfect just as we are. The idea here was to bring these two brands into hair and makeup to create new looks for people who are more creative, pushing the technology, and are also more inclusive. The truth is that with hair and makeup, there is not that much available today for people to express themselves. However, creators don’t necessarily have the scientific or hair knowledge to express the way they could be represented in virtual reality. So we have makeup and hair artists who have worked with 3D creators to create looks that push the platform’s technology.Being persistent: Ambitious people don’t easily give up when pursuing their goals, often doing whatever it takes to succeed. This might mean upskilling, revising a plan to make it attainable, and asking for help. Asmita Dubey: Our mantra is to seize something as soon as it starts. In that sense, we are making inroads into Web3 and metaverse beauty, because digital transformation and consumer behaviors are fast evolving. We are moving from products to services, from digitalization to virtualization, from 2D to 3D beauty, as well as from “look-down” smartphones to “face-forward” devices, which are growing and getting better in terms of technology. Improving access is a key aspect of the future plans of the newly-named Kent Downs National Landscape. Local people must enjoy what’s on their doorstep and tourism must be encouraged – without being detrimental to the landscape and nature they are visiting. Many projects are already in place to encourage local visits, UK tourism, overseas tourism, working with and supporting local businesses, providers and land owners, to create places to visit and stay within the National Landscape. Health & wellbeing As a culture, we give lip service to the notion that what matters is inner beauty when in fact it’s the outer version that carries the real social currency. The new outlook on beauty dares us to declare someone we haven’t met beautiful. It forces us to presume the best about people. It asks us to connect with people in a way that is almost childlike in its openness and ease. Ambition often starts with inspiration. Feeling inspired by someone else’s accomplishments is a great way to discover what you want to achieve.
