I’m thinking of getting another smaller one that will use the 7mm feet (there are two I want but cannot use on my 9mm machine) and it could be a backup if my machine is in service, if I want to sew with someone else or travel with one. I’ve had a very good personal experience with the dealer i’ve linked too, but there are plenty of other dealers.

The 525S also has an auto-declutch bobbin winder and is supplied with a two speed foot controller and a hard cover. I have just purchased online from Hobbycraft the 4400 as I am a relative beginner (did some sewing in my late teens but now 74). A solid and reliable mechanical machine with a decent number of stitch pattern, free arm, hard cover, and a nice selection of accessories, and able to handle some really heavy fabrics and multiple layers. The smallest thread I'd even consider using is v69 and certainly not the kind of thin thread that clothing needs. The motor runs smoothly and the foot pedal is responsive, so you can go very slow if you want or zoom at fast speed. You can also wipe the head clean with a soft dry cloth as required, or use a damp cloth whenever it's necessary.

I think the idea of ‘flattering’ is so steeped in society’s obsession with controlling what women wear, that writing about picking patterns that suit my body type feels like walking a very tricky line. I also have the Sailrite LSZ-1 portable walking foot, and I use pretty much exclusively v92 thread with it. I have started making bags and it struggles with top stitching – I am only able to use quilting cotton otherwise it struggles with all the layers. The top slider controls the width of the stitch, while the lower slider is used for adjusting the length. You can purchase the extension table from sew steady that will increase your workspace for bigger projects. It has everything you need for a wide range of sewing projects and it will sew heavy fabrics and leather which is such a great feature. What I do use is the straight stitch, the zig zag stitch, and on the occasion I’m using a large enough needle for it to work, the auto threader. Turning off the personalised advertising setting won’t stop you from seeing Etsy ads, but it may make the ads you see less relevant or more repetitive. For such applications a walking foot (as a minimum) really is needed, and having a compound/triple feed machine is even better. The final decision to make me choose the HD-3000 over the HD-1000 was the stitch width, then I saw them in Black and it was a no brainier for me.

The light provided is dim, making it difficult to use the machine in the evening, without additional lighting sources pointed directly at the worktable. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or something needs to be adjusted on it, but it doesn't work. Also there is no need to struggle with stitch settings as the machine will default to the correct settings for the stitch chosen with options to personalise the setting should you so wish. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item.I like to keep my machine very clean and find that having to unscrew the face plate inconvenient, most machines the face plate simply slides off. It offers both stitch width and length adjustment and a drop feed facility for freehand embroidery and free motion quilting. But after making new cushions for my patio furniture, 3 pair of lounge pants, altering 2 pair of dress pants, making a formal prom dress, and now on my 4th set of spandex body suits.

There are so many sewing machines on the market, options as well as opinions on each machine will always vary! If you want something to last, with a wider range of thread, larger foot lift and don't have the space maybe a portable walking foot machine would be a better choice.The 525S features 24 stitches plus a fully automatic one-step buttonhole and a built in needle threader. We take intellectual property concerns very seriously, but many of these problems can be resolved directly by the parties involved.
