She ‘disappears’ sometimes for more than a decade and all we ever really find out is that she was “working on the new album” in that time.

Media has not always been kind to Kate Bush because of her propensity to avoid the spotlight and not seek fame the way many other artists do. I would classify myself as a casual Kate Bush fan (know the hits, like pretty much everything I’ve heard) and this book can appeal to everyone no matter where they fall on the fan spectrum. Over three years in the making and featuring a raft of session players and producers, it was a lexicon of both time and craft. Because Kate doesn’t subscribe to the usual recording artist life-cycle convention of making an album, actively promoting it, going on tour, taking a short break and then repeating the process, her life can’t be tracked through her public movements in the way that other artists’ can. A key ingredient of the book is a lengthy interview Tom had with Kate in 2005, after the release of her album Aerial.I've been obsessed with Kate Bush's work for many years, and this was a treasure trove of stories, trivia, and insights.

Anybody with the remotest interest in Kate Bush will find something to satisfy their curiosity in this absorbing read. While in 1992 she gave permission for Utah Saints to sample her 1985 hit ‘Cloudbusting’ for their single ‘Something Good’, she stays away from anything that might be regarded as a active collaboration, although interestingly her engineer/former partner Del Palmer hints in an interview that she was considering it. It was one of those drop-everything-else-and-stare-open-mouthed-into-space-utterly-mesmerized moments. He makes the fair point that it might not have suited Kate’s style of performance, but there’s only one way to find out and that’s take the opportunity! Bush to do interviews, something she was not keen on, as many music journailst prefer the the print the legend idea of writing about musicians. Whether you're a seasoned enjoyer of Kate Bush's unique discography or a new listener discovering her work for the first time, this book comes highly recommended.
